Since I have started the exact same kit, turning it into a Marineflieger 104 with Kormorans, I will most definitely be following 🙂

Danke Bernd 🙂
@Michael I only have the kit without the Marineflieger decals, hence the Peddinghaus ones. I 3d printed the Kormorans with the specific pylons for the F-104G. They were designed by cults3d.com/@Sufa312 after photos I have taken at the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung in Koblenz. I think he did a great job and the files are free 🙂

Welcome guys and thank you for your interest 🙂
Started working on the ejection seat. Decided to add the PE to the seat from the kit and see how this will look. Alternatively I have a resin MB MK.GQ-7(A) from Aires, but this thing does not look very different from the kit's seat. And the straps, etc. are PE as well.

Thank you Christian and Martin! Worked on the ejection seat, besides some weird curve in the PE strap I am quite happy with the result.

Well, it seems like I need to do something about the main gear.

Or move the inner pylon outside, that should be simpler to do

👀 What museum is that reference picture taken from? Is that MBB's CCV test plane?
1 11 September 2024, 15:36

Yes, it is the CCV test plane. How did you recognise it? I took the picture at the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung Koblenz earlier this year.

In the full picture #14 it reads on the plane. Thanks for the tip! I have the Hasegawa's kit of it (F-104G Starfighter (Hasegawa 01987, 1:72)) and wish to dare to build it someday.

I can post some more pictures from it, at least in museum condition. It is a very interesting plane and surely makes for a great model! 👍

Did some modifications to the main gear (angle) and the Kormoran fins to better match the photos I took and the picture in the Duke Hawkins F-104 book.
@Łukasz moving th pylon to the outside would be the easiest way, yes. But as the wings are angled down, the clearance to the ground may become too low. Cutting the gear struts with a sharp knife was surprisingly easy 😉

Did some masking and added the red anti-collision light that only the german F-104s had and that is completely missing on the kit.

Still doing the decals with all the stencils. The Astra decals are great, really easy to handle, very thin but tough. But, as the Peddinghaus decals, some are just to big or the model is too small 😉
I make the best of it, will post some additional pictures in the next days.

Mounted the Kormorans after finishign the decals. Next step wheels, missing bay doors etc., clear coat and weathering 🙂

I aligned them with the mounting holes for the tanks from the kit. But yes, they point outwards.

Very nice detail work for 1:72! 👍
Looking forward to the finishing line.

I love the look of the Marine Starfighters and you nailed it. Very nice. Which color did you use for the Dayglow Orange?
1 23 January, 20:09

Thank you so much guys!
@Michael It is RAL2005 and I used Vallejo Model Air 71.082

Lovely Marine Starfighter! Well done, the classic MFG camo is great 👍
