MiG-29

November 15, 2024The starting point here is that it is kind of finished, but I wanted to improve it a bit.
I bought and put this little mig together few years ago, after taking a long break in modeling. I treated it as a test platform for few things I wanted to try. On the other hand, I didn't want to go to ambitious about it, as that would probably prevent me from ever completing it.2
November 15, 2024The kit itself is rather poor. The original nose part shape is so off, that it looks more like a caricature of mig-29. This was my biggest interference in the original parts. I cut off the nose just before the canopy, and replaced it with one I made from putty. The effect isn't perfect, but I think its a big improvement over the original part.3
November 15, 2024Jet nozzles are way to small for the model. They look more like they come from F-18 rather then Mig-29 (although I did a Revell F-18 in 1:144 as a kid, and the nozzles looked like they came from F-5). This required quite some sanding of fuselage, just to make parts fit.4
November 15, 2024I painted it with a brush - and it shows :\ It's quite obvious that I didn't match the blue paint to the blue on decals. I will just have to live with that - I don't intend to redo the pint job. Note: today I would choose a different schema.5

November 15, 2024The kit has no cockpit - just a hole in the fuselage. Back then I build a very basic "cockpit" from paper - just to plug the hole. The plan for now was to add an ejection seat, a steering stick and some basic instruments panel. Lucky I tend to use as little glue as possible, so detaching the canopy wasn't that much of a problem.7
November 15, 2024A tiny ejection seat made from milliput.8
November 15, 2024Ejection seat painted and planted in the cockpit. Also a steering stick included. The instruments panel is a part from a scaled down cockpit from 1:33 paper card model.
