January 25, 2025Showing some details added. I'm still selecting paint. I'll be using non-toxic primer and paints. More on this in future posts.2
January 25, 2025Details on turrets.3
January 25, 2025Turret detail. I used basswood and sheet styrene. A wood dowel and a spare hatch from a junker model was used to make a torpedo tube blast shield.4
January 25, 2025Mast work. The lights are the modified cable reels not used. I think those reels and extra winch were used on the exprimental scout aircraft catapult ships to recover aircraft. Not appropriate to production ships.5
January 26, 2025Laying out the hatch covers on styrene. Really small. Cut with sicissors and file to final size.6
January 26, 2025Result onboard. Relocated turret captain's blast shield to starboard side. Blast shields were on either side of turrets, never in the center. Which side varied from ship to ship. Some turrets as shown here did not have the blast shield.

January 28, 2025Stiffener cemented in place.9
January 28, 2025Grippy tweezer hack with sandpaper glued to the tips.10
January 28, 2025Director turret doors and braces on antenna.11
February 2, 2025A small round file can be used to carefully remove material to make the Bofors gunsight more accurate.12
February 2, 20255mm jump rings and sewing thread used to make the gunsight. Wax the thread before attaching to prevent unravelling.13
February 2, 2025Sheet styrene looped to form a larger diameter base ring for the 5" guns. Not much of an improvement compared to a full set of really detailed base rings that can be had at Model Monkey for $5.14
