Looking good so far! Looking at your decal set, I was unaware they did the 47s in desert pink as well.
16 March 2017, 21:54

Thanks Don, our nooks were done in some rather fetching schemes for the gulf, like this one
[img1]
16 March 2017, 22:22

You inspired me Augie. I am going to get that decal set from Hannants and slate my Matchbox 47 to be an operation Granby bird to go with the Jag and planned Tonka build. 🙂
19 March 2017, 17:43

Hehe nice 🙂 Go with the Spec ops one I showed, will be real eye catcher😉
19 March 2017, 17:57

Oh hell no. I am NOT going to try that paint job. LOL It will be a pink one like the other two.
19 March 2017, 19:57

Fantastics cans! The original plastic? If so - how? I Have one of these in he stash.
19 March 2017, 20:19

Hi Playtime, they are the original cans. First coated in Treasure silver wax gilt, then used burnt red from tamiya weathering set d, then dipped in future. 🙂
19 March 2017, 20:43

Oh great a Chinook! Looks good so far, Augie! I´ll follow this one for sure!👍
20 March 2017, 10:48

So as its been a few days since the last update, here is the cockpit with the italeri enhancement set installed. Much improved!
31 March 2017, 23:20

So short update, first is resin back section being grafted into the top section.
Second is the first of the air filters with pe grafted on.
4 April 2017, 22:30

Coming along nicely Augie, love the sound of that beast, looking forward to seeing it finished.
4 April 2017, 22:37

I have not been keeping up with your work Augie and I apologise for that. 🙁
But from what I am looking at now, I am most delighted to see your still producing beautiful work. 🙂
I attempted this kit some time ago, but just never put my heart into it and I screwed up.
but as always, your attention to all that make it great is there. 🙂 👍
7 April 2017, 11:16

Thanks Kerry 🙂
Its a slow progress kit as trying to graft in the italeri addons. Plus its BN which after reading about her history I kinda took a shine to her
7 April 2017, 18:03

Hi Augie. 👍 🙂
The 'history' side of this hobby always get me by the throat too.
There are no better history buffs than scale modellers, that's for sure. :-0
And, what makes your builds all that more interesting is that your expertise with hand brushing can't be overlooked.👍
I'll just be in the corner, I won't get in your way.......watching. hehehehehe🙂
7 April 2017, 21:15

Martin, we MUST be very quiet mate, (Mouse like) as Augie gets really involved in her work. LOL 😉
7 April 2017, 21:32

I'll bring some cheese, do you have some beers ledt from your birthday party? 😉
7 April 2017, 21:38

Lol thanks guys 🙂
I do what i can. in case of BN its that she is I think 2 yrs younger than me, but is till flying in active service!
7 April 2017, 21:41

Oh yes. 🙂 The birthday party. LOL 🙂
Now all beer is gone Martin, but I can bring some cake. :-O 👍.
Augie, you say two years younger than you. ?
Now, your really letting the cat out of the bag here about your age, but, being the gent I am, (sick), I will not make mention of just how beautiful BN still looks. OK. ? hehehehehe
7 April 2017, 21:50

First new pic is one of the air filters and the second is one of the engine vents with the mesh PE put over.
7 April 2017, 22:09

On the engine intakes. Are they brass mesh as well Augie. ?
I was doing the RAAF version with the Chinook we had, and I seem to remember mesh filters all over the outside. :-/
7 April 2017, 23:34

The one I have is the old Matchbox kit. I wonder if I will be able to get that stuff to work on that one.
And great work Augie! 99 times out of 100 I can peg brush painting at a glance. Yours on the other hand is that 1 in a 100.
8 April 2017, 02:30

Donald, I agree that her hand painting really does look like it has been air brushed. Such patience and care is rare. 🙂
8 April 2017, 02:41

certainly she SCM brush master 🙂
if it would have not been for airbrush, i would be lost completely 😛
8 April 2017, 07:33

Lol sneaky Kerry, I didnt see your reply. I think BN has aged better😉
The filters are Brass Mesh to and a pain to fit. The other mesh is pretty prolific over the backend, will put more pics up once its all on.
Don, The italeri set wouldnt work due to scale (Matchbox is 72nd) but I know there is some mesh you can get that might work.
As for the painting guys, You make me blush with such compliments.
8 April 2017, 10:43

Augie. Your world famous mate. 🙂
It's nice when your talents are recognised and admired by your peers.
And notice too, that no one has ever said your work is bad. 👍
It must be from being good at putting on all that make up over the years. BOOM BOOM. 🙂 hahahahaha
8 April 2017, 11:57

Lol thanks Kerry 🙂 one thing tho.. i have never worn makeup (allergic)
cheers Michael 🙂
8 April 2017, 12:52

Wow Kerry, you are brave.😉 LOL
Augie, for some reason I thought this one you were doing was 72nd as well.
8 April 2017, 18:43

hehe kerry can get away with somethings 🙂
Its alright Don happens. I only tend to build 48th tho 🙂
8 April 2017, 21:55

As someone who has refuelled & flown in Bravo November (Falklands), I can tell you that you have made an amazing job 🙂
8 April 2017, 22:47

O.o Thank you dave. If I may, I'd like to ask a few questions about her just so in know on the right path.
8 April 2017, 22:54

OK, ask away! Here's some background for you. I was part of the the RAF Tactical Supply Team (TISWAS) aboard the Atlantic conveyor, assigned to refuel both Harriers & Chinooks (Woka Woka's).
8 April 2017, 23:03

Oh wow, ok that gives me a fairly good idea then. The two main bits of detail i was after getting cleared up, was
1) Did she have the chin RWR ?
2) Starboard donk filter, was it green or grey?
Thanks muchly
8 April 2017, 23:25

Nice one Augie. I have the CH-47D 1/48 and CH-47A 1/35 scale. I flew CH-47's in the good old US. Army. Loved the old bird.
8 April 2017, 23:47

Isn't this world full of the most amazing and unassuming people who have so much to be proud of. 🙂 👍
9 April 2017, 00:05

Blimey aint that the truth Kerry 🙂
and cool clifford, Both CH-47 and huey are among my faves
9 April 2017, 00:18

Thanks Aug's. You been stealth building again?. I finished my F9F-5 Panther, Monogram kit, a quite delightful build. I haven't taken any pictures of it yet, and I have an F-18E and Mig 21 on the go right now, no pictures yet of those either. I guess I better get the camera busy, huh.
9 April 2017, 00:25

Lol yes you had better 🙂
This one is isnt stealth job.. well too much of one. 🙂
9 April 2017, 00:42

I will. Oh and I forgot the P-51, now that was a stealth build. It is finished now also, need to add some more pictures of it also. LOL.
9 April 2017, 00:47

My next build will be a NMF F-86, I am going to try AK Interactives Extreme Metal Acrylic paints. I watced a review of them on Flory models site. They look promising.
9 April 2017, 00:50

Looks great so far Augie, and great choice in subject. 1/48 Chinook kits are hard to find... Eager to follow your progress!
9 April 2017, 01:04

If memory serves, they all were fitted with RWR, can't help with the filter.
9 April 2017, 09:32

Hi Dave, thanks for that, every little helps.
Kerry, yeah 🙂 oops😉
Michael thanks 🙂 glad people are liking.
9 April 2017, 10:29

Your dexterity and fineness can not be argued with Augie. 👍
The detail you integrate in your builds is a joy to see and admire. 🙂
Thanks for the images of your art.
👍 👍 👍 🙂
15 April 2017, 23:45

I like being honest my lady. And if that makes you blush, then I am a happy guy. 🙂
16 April 2017, 04:13

Scalemates just might turn into a big international dating service if we try. LOL 🙂 👍
16 April 2017, 08:43

LOL thanks Kerry and Holly 🙂 Another reason I love this site, always guaranteed to end up smiling
16 April 2017, 09:21

Nice work, and very visible in a Chinook so worth the effort. I suppose these are no bang-seats ? 😄
16 April 2017, 09:29

Augie. When I come over there to attend the Wangerooge meeting next March, I am hoping a Guinness or two might be possible with you. ? Yeah. ?? 👍
16 April 2017, 10:23

Looking very nice Augie, I think this is going to be one impressive build.
17 April 2017, 20:37

Another update, as you can see she is looking more like herself now.
Some further details to add but we're getting here
18 April 2017, 15:45

I have been looking for some images of the detail of the rear door and I can't seem to get any info on just what I was looking for. 🙁 I am assuming that your all sorted with the detailed image department, but I was just wondering if there was anything different or special about the door/ramp you may/could do, to 'gussie' it up a bit. :-/ ?
18 April 2017, 17:12

Thanks Kerry 🙂
as for the ramp, it looks odd but after seeing this looks actually ok
[img1]
18 April 2017, 17:39

Excellent looking Chinook Augie, your work amazes me. The ramp wasn,t a very fancy item. Just a flat plate with 3 wedge shaped smaller ramps that flipped out so you could drive vechicles aboard. The bottom of the ramp was curved with 3 wooden skids on the bottom, and the upper ramp door retracted into the hollow ramp. It could be made to retract, stay retracted(which is how we usually flew, only extending the dorr when the aircraft was parked and tied down, or it was extremely frigid.) The ramp sides had large hydraulic acturators to raise and lower the ramp, and then a mass of hydraulic tubing and valves on the sidewalls inside the aft cargo area, on either side of the ramp. But of course you probally know all this already.
18 April 2017, 18:25

Thanks Clifford, I've been putting some in place and have highlighted the molded in ones... oddly its quite obscured still so looks ok
18 April 2017, 18:26

You are welcome. It is hard to see inside from outside. If you know what I mean. That upper door in your picture, retracts into the inside of the ramp when it is down. It does not stay up.
18 April 2017, 18:32

A company called Cobra Company, makes an excellent resin ramp detail kit in 1/35 scale, which is what I am waiting to get before I build my 1/35 scale Chinook, plus have to get the correct rear landing gear. My kit came with the early model twin wheeled aft gear, and I want to model the first Chinook I crewed CH-47A 66-15124.
18 April 2017, 18:38

Augie, I was not, in any way, suggesting there was something 'missing' in your build. I was simply wondering if I was not seeing something that would enhance even more, all the detail your already including. 👍
And Clifford, Thank you for your wonderful call on what there is to be seen in the ramp department. Thank mate. 🙂 👍
18 April 2017, 19:28

You are welcome Kerry. I am dreading building my Trumpeter Chinook, there is no detail what so ever aft of the cockpit, so will be investing in a lot of resin parts, Eduard's PE cargo seats and a lot of scratch building. But that is what makes modeling "fun" isn't it. LOL.
18 April 2017, 19:36

I just saw a link to a 1/35 CH-47 rear door on Finescale modeller. google.com.au/url?sa..ust=1492630789096453 Resin, like you mentioned. 👍 Scroll to the bottom of that page and there is a whole lot more in the way of pages relating to the 1/35 Trumpeter. (t)
18 April 2017, 19:41

I'm sure it will turn up just frustrating as i had it yestuday an now cant find it
19 April 2017, 21:39

Is it stuck to the underside of your shirt sleeve. ? As that is where I find a LOT of my missing parts. Adhered to my arms from when I rest my arms on the bench . 🙁
It lets us see more of your amazing work Augie. :-O
20 April 2017, 01:01

Hope you found it by now, otherwise do the "Sh(Ch)ake the Chinook". If you hear rattling sounds maybe the door fell inside the chopper? Anyway, good luck 👍 👍 🙂
20 April 2017, 07:27

Hi guys,
Still no sign of it, checked if it had stuck to me somehow, plus everything else.. also taking apart the build desk trying to find it.
checked the chopper and its not int here, guess one option is if someone with one in their stash can take a paper copy I can use as a template to make replacement 🤔
20 April 2017, 09:25

Hi playtime, was last seen now 2 days ago.
I've gone through the clothes I was wearing that day, the bench, the floor, any and all boxes/draws near where i was working, the whole length of the bench
20 April 2017, 09:40

And as quickly as it vanished, its been found.. in middle of floor where I have looked 3 times already..
20 April 2017, 10:07

Ah good. Had an incident with a clear part - the front cap of a warp engine - it dissappeared between sessions. A couple of years later I get it out of the box again - and find it on the end of the warp engine where I had test fitted the bloody thing. Duh!
20 April 2017, 11:14

The bomb sight on my Canberra, did the same thing this morning. I had it in a pair of tweezers trying to glue it to the cockpit floor. All I heard was ping, ping, ping as it departed the tweezers and bounced around the work bench. Never did find the darn thing. I did find the PE antennas for my Mig-21 I lost 4 days ago. So had to scratch build a makeshift bomb sight.
20 April 2017, 18:54

Just the thing for you guys, an acme ping prevention box !! 😄 😄 😄
[img1]
20 April 2017, 19:35

LOL I may invest in one of those. I pinged the PE HUD part for the F-4 I am doing. Son and I looked all over. Next day, it was in the middle of the floor. Evidently my pekingese walked by swooshed into the open with his tail.
21 April 2017, 12:37

I have got into the habit (annoying for me at times), but, putting EVERYTHING into small clear zip lock plastic bags saves a LOT of agro and heart break.
And so far, I have got zero for zero losses on any parts now, as I learned to use also the adhesive tipped sticks or 'blue tac' to hold parts as I position them in stupidly awkward places, especially HUD's. :-/
Just a thought. 🙂
21 April 2017, 15:34

I'll post some images of what I mean on one of my albums.
Believe me, they were a 'last resort' situation, as it did become tedious continually opening and closing them for bits I had already dealt with. :-/
But if I am going to drop anything, it will land on an old (white preferable)bed sheet I have under my chair and table that shows clearly any bits that land there.
There is no one solution to our dilemma of those rogue escapees that are determined not to be found, but minimisation is the key.
Sorry if this sounds like a lecture. 🙁
My "Uhu" is still languishing the loss of some of it's front ariels. 🙁
21 April 2017, 18:11

My carpet monster keeps eating bits and pieces occasionally. The strange thing is, there's no carpet in my room. 👎
21 April 2017, 18:19

I lost a whole roll of Tamiya tape today, was masking off the crew entry door of the Canberra, and went to put the tape back on top of my spray booth, that is where I keep all my tape, anyway it rolled off the back and went between the window and wall. It took me an hour to find it. It somehow wound up inside the cabinet part of my work bench, in a tub that I keep my oil paints in. I just can't seem to hold on to things anymore. I have used Kerry's method, especially when installing small windows.
21 April 2017, 21:44

I lost my USB lead for my camera the other day without it pinging off anywhere, I rolled it up and put it down now it is gone ffs, most infuriating .... ah well, could be worse 🙂
21 April 2017, 22:04

Next................we will be talking about loosing our minds. LOL Mwahahahaha...................But I think I have all ready done that. hehehehehehe
Have a great week end folks.
And Marquez is kicking butt in the "Americas" MotoGP. Watch it if you can.
Exciting motor sport, the very best actually. 👍

21 April 2017, 22:22

The minute you put knife to plastic you open a hole in the space-time continuum that, given half a chance, will whisks parts away into a parallel dimension where fellow modelers find them and can't figure out from whence they came!!! Good luck mate...
21 April 2017, 23:34

good idea to use the foam box to keep the carpet monster away! Hope it works also against wormholes in the space-time continuum 🙂
... and yes: looks nicer and nicer! I always love this phase of the build - everything is coming together and it starts to look more and more like the real thing.
22 April 2017, 17:55

You certainly know how to impress Augie. 👍
Magic moments are nice to share. 🙂
Next project I want to see from you is a big image of your display cabinet, as I and all your mates rekon it must be awesome. :-p
22 April 2017, 22:19

Hehe thanks guys, I will try to get a picture of the display shelves in my hobby room 🙂
22 April 2017, 22:35

🙂 thanks Clifford, still time yet to finish, I have to do the aerial on the port side which is going to be a pain.
22 April 2017, 22:42

Finally got the cockpit on the Canberra finished, except for firing cords on the seats.
22 April 2017, 22:44

So much eye candy to yet appear here in SM. Clifford, I will be sure to look in on your Canberra album as soon as you post it and say g'day soon mate. 👍
If it will be anything like your others (especially the Mig 15) it will be a doozey. 🙂
22 April 2017, 23:17

Augie. Do you have ariels that come with the kit. ?
Or is it something you will have to become creative with. ?
There are a few of them I believe. ?
👍
22 April 2017, 23:23

Thanks Kerry. Question for either of you. Where can I find EZ line. I have not seen any such thing here.
22 April 2017, 23:26

EZ line. ? Mmmmm :-/
For what is it used Clifford.?
If your meaning something that is like ultra thin/fine fishing line.?
If so, then I use a thing called 'invisible thread', as it comes in clear, like fishing line or black, mostly used in the garment industry for stitching seams.
It has a little bit of 'stretchability', but needs a steady hand and a good eye to use it for bi-plane rigging or aerials.
23 April 2017, 04:30

The only place I know to get EZ Line from is: modelsrgo.co.uk/ez-l..eet-fine-0.12mm.html
23 April 2017, 07:50

try berkshirejunction.com/ez-line/ they should have a link with retailers
This is fantastic material - used it on the Catalina
23 April 2017, 08:09

Kerry the arials I will be using kit ones, problem will be the long one on the port side.. still thinking how best to do it.
23 April 2017, 09:52

Hi Augie, very nice and clean work so far 👍
About the rigging, you should give it a try with EZ Line. Using the EZ line need just a little practice.
The lenght will not be any problem, because you have to give the line a bit tension. Just so much that the line will be tight. You can try it easliy, gluing two pieces of a sprue frame in the required distance, and do some practice rigging.
There are also a lot of toutorials on Youtube, how to rigg, ship models, aeroplanes etc.
Cheers, Christian
23 April 2017, 10:13

And. The smallest dab of Tamiya's CA glue at the attachment point is fast setting, and clear. no (fogging) holds like a vice. 🙂
23 April 2017, 11:19

By the way, I much like the trick using 0,3 diameter brass tube as a fixation:
Youtube Video

23 April 2017, 12:02

that is a really cool video. good info about rigging christian. thanks
23 April 2017, 12:29

Extra special effort to make a video in that manner,
loved the bit with paint flowing over the surfaces 🙂
23 April 2017, 13:48

oh dear..................i now am watching all the Tom Grigat vids.....................................
23 April 2017, 14:46

Thanks Christian. Now I need to buy some brass piping as well. I've got two orders >50€ on the way already. 🙂
23 April 2017, 15:42

Quick frontal shot with the main code on. Just serials to do and delivery of the last two codes.
25 April 2017, 23:37

The end result is just as I expected Augie. I have looked at your build from all angles you have posted, and as usual. A masterpiece in every way. You have a great touch for the difficult ones my friend. 👍
SALUTE. 🙂
25 April 2017, 23:50

It looks awesome Augie. Thank you all for the info on the EZ line. I have tried fine fishing line, and it works but seems to take very long time to set, but I now realize I have been using the wrong super glue. I need to get super glue meant for modeling like I used to use on My R/C models, and for rigging my model ships. Instead of the Gorilla Glue I have been using. It works but cures very slowly.
25 April 2017, 23:57

Hey Aug's did you put the red, yellow and green bands on the pitch change links? LOL. Just teasing you.
26 April 2017, 00:05

Wow, thanks guys 🙂
Clifford, oddly the reference I have which I used as a guide was for the first two to make it to the RAF and the OCU, neither have the coloured bands😉
She still has a fair bit of work to do so will see if you guys like her as much once thats done.
Just waiting decals to be delivered and some thread for the aerials
27 April 2017, 17:20

I just can't get over how smooth you get the paint with a brush,
possibly one of your best builds yet Augie 🙂 👍
27 April 2017, 17:22

Gotta agree with Choppa. I am awed by your brush skills. Just flat out awesome.
27 April 2017, 17:52

haha we almost believe you😉 😄
have you got a base and a backdrop for the final reveal photos ?
27 April 2017, 19:12

really i am lol, as for base. I have an idea for one. no backdrop tho.
27 April 2017, 19:16

I agree ,Augie. One of your Best works.Your brush skills are marvelous.
28 April 2017, 03:45

Thanks guys,
Yes James its actually a surprise how big the thing is.
28 April 2017, 21:47

Do you even have any place where it fits? I admire the fact that you can produce constant quality brush work even with larger kits that must take ages to cover with paint.
29 April 2017, 19:03

lol thanks urban 🙂 Yeah i have space on the display shelves for it. As for the paint I wish i knew the secret myself it just seems to work for me
29 April 2017, 19:33

So antenna hangers have been fabricated and attached ready for me to string the antenna through.
7 May 2017, 14:12

Go,lady go. Looking fantastic. Canberra got her clear coat , ready for decals.
7 May 2017, 14:18

Thanks Clifford 😄 looking forward to seeing the canberra once decals are on.
7 May 2017, 14:46

Good job ! It's amazing how such "small" and much neglected details can add so much more to an already beautiful model ! 👍
7 May 2017, 15:38

Very nice work with the antenna 👍 How does the EZ line work for you?
7 May 2017, 18:08

Thanks guys 🙂
Christian, its not EZ line, i ended up using some 0.25mm fishing line I had
7 May 2017, 21:20

ha, was just stringing you along 😄
either way worked well, nice the way such details bring a model to life 🙂
7 May 2017, 22:17

Inspirational in every way Augie.👍
We are all in awe of your skills and patience. 🙂
Did you eventually 'find the door'.? :-O
Always a joy to look at your masterpieces. 🙂
7 May 2017, 23:44

If you did not know better, you would never know that it was painted with a brush. You are indeed a master of the old "hairy stick."
8 May 2017, 00:09

😄 thanks Kerry, I did find the door thank god.
Thanks Clifford its comments like that, that keep me from turning to the darkside.
8 May 2017, 17:23

She is coming along just beautifully, she's going to be another stunner.👍
