Having embarked on learning a new skill set - mastering 3D design. I am using that developing skill to help me with ‘scratch building’. As a septuagenarian with increasing ‘fat and clumsy’ fingers I am finding working on a large monitor and 3D printing so much easier than trimming styrene.
Anyway, there are shortcomings in the Airfix Javelin - the undernourished rear being the most significant. I am in the process of creating a replacement (using dimensions from the Jet Age Museum FAW9) with jet pipes and nozzles set at the slight inward and downward angle.
High Planes Conversion - those of you with this will know that the nozzles are to big, in fact their diameter is just shy of 1 mm too large! I have created correct diameter nozzles (with the right number of the ‘little holes’) and set to give the inward and downward angle - really just an exercise to see ‘if I could’.
With the thought of scribing all those airbrake ‘fingers’ on 3 models, I have created replacement units that will fit into cutouts. But also ‘airbrake out’ units - not something that would normally be seen but one of my models will feature it - possibly with flaps down as well.
I am toying with an ‘at rest’ tailplane/elevator.
I have completed the various components and can offer the rear fuselage plug with jet-pipes/reheat nozzles plus Sapphire7R turbines, seamless intake ducts with compressor details, replacement detailed undercarriage legs, flaps down, airbrakes out, airbrakes in. Also replacement nozzles for the HPM rear plug plus press fit Sapphire 7R turbines.
