I am not much of a fan of the Ornithopters seen in the old games.
Though their design seems to be closer to what is described in the books.
I think aircraft flapping their wings like a bird looks pretty dumb but these here look really interesting.
I know it works, but still... 😄 There is a reason modern aircraft look the way they do.
But this is fiction, so who cares. 😄
I will soon start printing, as this will take a some week(end)s.
Personally, I would like to build this in 1:72 scale, but it would be far too large for the printer and my home.
With fully extended wings it would have a wingspan of around 82 cm and be around 44cm in length.

No, Ben, I did not.
I have barely any experience with computer aided design.
But I did the name plates on my MiG-29 and Mi-26 myself. 😎
As with most stuff I print I download the STL from a bunch of different websites.
Some are for free and others cost some money.
Here's the source for the Ornithopter:

I believe there are some more sources for the Ornithopter, but this is where I got it from.

Interesting - I looked right after I saw the movie and didn't see any files, but now there are some! I'm currently building a 1/35 K-Wagen where the parts just barely fit in my SLA printer, the main hull took 17 hours to print.

Really hopping that with the success of the first movie and the decision to make the second that someone gets the rights to build a kit in 72nd. Otherwise 3D printed projects like yours will be the only option.

I would love it to see a model kit of the Ornithopter but even in 1/72 scale the wingspan would be almost a metre long.
Well, one could hang it on a wall like a dragonfly on display. 😄 Could maybe save some space.
