The tank still needs to have the actual name applied, by the way. I had no good way to do that when I built the model, but Black Lion Decals has since released a set that includes it. All I need to do is apply it someday 🙂

Looks really good, congrats! I like this threatening look of Churchill tank...

It's the little girl that gives it that look, isn't it? 🙂

Indeed, smiling little girl standing on a tank always looks creepy... 😄

You'll probably find another of my upcoming models even more disconcerting, then — it'll have a cat on the tank 🙂

Cattus domesticus or some less aggresive species - Panthera tigris althaica, for example?...;)

Felis catus, I think you mean 🙂 But yes, that variety. Now to go and finish that model …

Another great Jakko build. Did you ever see the actual rounds these fired? I think they were attached from the outside. Like pushed partway down but the main part was a lot bigger diameter than the gun (it had a part that went down the barrel but the business part was enormous like a really, really fat stick grenade. Didn't they call them hedgehogs or something? I could be completely wrong about the name.
It seems like you've built almost all the tanks I've ever seen or want to build myself. You must've been doing this since you were 5 years old or something. But seriously, did the fact westkapelle had ruined tanks left on the island start your modelling interest? It must've had some effect?
My childhood on the banks of the river Thames by tower bridge had lots of wartime bomb sites still there in the 1970s but we would've loved tanks to play on like in your model 🙂

To reload the mortar, the barrel tipped backwards to the vertical. A round would then be slid up into it through the little square sliding hatch on the front deck. The barrel was then returned to the horizontal, aimed, and fired. Hey, what do you know, there's a video about it on YouTube 🙂

The firing looks impressive, but in practice they hardly made a dent in German bunkers. Unreinforced concrete, though, didn't last too long.

> Didn't they call them hedgehogs or something?

That's the naval antisubmarine weapon 🙂 That WAS tried on a Sherman hull as a mine-clearing device, but was not successful.

Close … 7 or 8 🙂

> But seriously, did the fact westkapelle had ruined tanks left on the island start your modelling interest?

It was a friend a few houses down, who had some Matchbox aircraft.

I love talking to you Jakko. I find out something new every time. I know you've authored at least one book but wouldn't you like to do a tank encyclopaedia or something similar? With some extra research I'm sure you'd have enough material. By the way how do you buy the book you posted earlier? I couldn't see it on Amazon. (Gonna watch that Churchill bunker buster mortar vid now🫣).
