This model represents a specific gun (379299) that I was a crewman on (MOS 0811, Field Artillery Cannoneer) while in the US Marines, stationed at 29 Palms, California from 1977 to 1981. Their were 2 'gun' batteries that fielded this weapon, 1st 175mm Gun Battery, SP and 3rd 175mm Gun Battery, SP (self-propelled), at the base. In 1979, the were converted to 8" Howitzers, M110A1 and our unit became 2nd 8 Inch Howitzer Battery.
