July 29, 2024These are the same kit parts as the box, but from a production run in the 1980s. I had deconstructed the original build thinking I'd accurize it. But never got that far.2
July 29, 2024Here are the kit parts that were in the box when I bought this re-release. Scalemates knows more about when this release than I do. If its important to you, look it up in the kit history. Hopefully its obvious that the re-release parts are the same as the kit parts from the 1980. The reason why that's important will become obvious in a later picture

July 29, 2024This is the resin reproduction of the Airfix Hawk from the 20th century. Note how the box resembles the original Airfix box art which can be found in various places. This is the Hoto version of this resin reproduction of the Airfix kit.

July 29, 2024Here is the Airfix resin Hawk next to the Airfix Eagle. Note how they're roughly the same size.5
July 29, 2024Here is the Airfix Eagle Command Module next to the Hawk's Command module. Note how they're roughly the same size despite differences in the general shape implying a consistent design aesthetic despite the Eagle is a multi-purpose vehicle versus a single function war machine.6
July 29, 2024Here is the superior MPC release of the hawk. Finer definition of the details. Even at this scale, you can make out the scaled Airfix Apollo LM kit part on the original FX miniature.7
July 29, 2024Now, here is the Airfix Resin reproduction next to the main halves of the MPC hawk release. They're also the same size, just like the comparison with the Airfix Eagle.8
July 29, 2024Here's the Airfix Eagle CM next to the resin reproduction.9
July 29, 2024And here's that Airfix Eagle CM next to the MPC Hawk fuselage halves10
July 29, 2024Here I put the Airfix CM ontop of the MPC Hawk CM. It is a surprisingly good match and confirms what I said earlier. Both CMs are sized the same because both vehicles need to meet the same engineering requirements.11
July 29, 2024For overkill on my point, here are the kit parts from the newer release of the Airfix kit.12
July 29, 2024Here is the 1/72 scale Eagle from MPC.13
July 29, 2024And here is the 1/72 scale Eagle from MPC next to the ~1/100 Airfix Eagle. The TV show's scale references for the Eagle make it several dimensions. Sort of like the magical Millenium Falcon which is bigger on the inside than the outside.14
July 29, 2024And here is the MPC Eagle CM on the left. The Airfix Hawk Reproduction in the middle. And the Airfix Eagle CM on the right. The MPC Eagle CM is substantial bigger. IMHO, that's a good thing, since it actually is 1/72 that MPC's research decided was the best 'prototype' dimension.15
July 29, 2024Now I've opened the MPC 1/48 Hawk box.16
July 29, 2024Comparing the MPC 1/48 Hawk parts with the Airfix resin reproduction. But using the MPC 1/72 Hawk would have been the same comparison, as I showed they're the same in dimension.17
July 29, 2024Here's a side by side comparison of the MPC 1/72 Eagle CM with the MPC 1/48 Hawk.18
July 29, 2024Sorry about the dark picture, but here is the MPC 1/72 Eagle CM ontop of the MPC 1/48 Hawk CM. They're very close in size, though the Hawk is slightly bigger. In the 20th century Airfix made the Hawk and Eagle Command Modules very close in size and at the time called both of them 1/72. I'm suggesting that the 1/48 Hawk can be also be considered 1/72 scale.

Here are kit part comparisons between 5 different models. I'm going to make the case that the MPC 1/48 Hawk can be displayed as a 1/72 scale replica alongside the MPC 1/72 Eagle. This is against the scales as published by MPC, but looking at the original models of these subjects as produced by Airfix in the 20th century permits an alternative interpretation of the larger Hawk's scale.
