19 May 2012, 13:28

Looking very good, Philip! You can't have too many Tonkas, I think. I have a question for you Tornado experts. I have the Italeri F.3 and the Revell GR.1 in 1:72 scale. I'd like to build one of them with the wings swept, but I was told that when on the ground, the wings are always fully forward. Is that true?
19 May 2012, 13:52

I'm not a " jetman " myself, but when seeing things like this, it starts to ache 🙂
19 May 2012, 13:55

@Bill, when there are on the ground the wings are fully forward, I think so, i'm not that expert, but it makes sence, thanks for the nice comments and for looking guys
@Zimmy, just do it man 🙂

Missed this one before, nice details in the cockpit phil.
Cant wait to see the panther on it.
19 May 2012, 16:39

Thx Stefan, there is a lot of work to do on this one but it's fun, greetz Phil
19 May 2012, 17:43

On the ground, the wings can be swept back, certainly! It nearly wont get out of the shelter, if they where fully extended;)
19 May 2012, 18:21

@Holger, thx for the answer on Bill qeustion, greetz Phil
19 May 2012, 19:36

Nice picture Holger. Do the pylons pivot as the wing sweeps, like the F-111?
19 May 2012, 21:03

Yes, of course. I should slap myself in the forehead and say "D'oh!" like Homer Simpson.
19 May 2012, 21:12

@Phillip:
Great choice! I`m a great fan of Italian Tornados.
You made a fine paint-job on all cockpit details! The seatbelts are very fine! Do you use any detail sets from Paragon for your model? I will built the Italeri kit too, despite there is a beauty Hobbyboss kit available!!. But believe me Phillip, only the hard way is the right way! 🙂
@ Bill:
Examined my copy of the technical manual and yes; all wing positions on ground are possible. Also all slat and flap positions are possible. If you like you could also extend the air brakes on ground!

Dirk
19 May 2012, 23:01

@Dirk, i built it straight forward, no paragon update, just the seatbelts are from aires, I now that the hard way is the right way, but there are shore better kits than the Italeri one, only the decals are a beauty from this one, greetz Phil 😉
20 May 2012, 08:26

Thanks, Dirk, now I will be comfortable having the wings swept. By the way, if anyone wants to build the 1:48 HobbyBoss Tornado, have a good look at this thread first:
britmodeller.com/for...php?showtopic=41559
Cheers, Bill
20 May 2012, 14:02

Thx Bill
for this very explicitly detailed report at Britmodeller`s Forum.
Well Well, NOW it is clear to me, never ever an cruel HB Tornado!
I have the beauty Italeri kit on stash and all the Paragon stuff for all necessary corrections. So, I`ll go delightful the hard way like Philip, to built a Tornado with pants down like my DH T.11!
🙂

20 May 2012, 19:58

Do ypou have have a competition with Stefan about the best build OOB cockpit? 🙂
20 May 2012, 21:38

@ Philip:
The next model will be a Fennek in scale 72! After that I will start my Tornado and my P-39 Airacobra (Eduard)
@Christian: It will be very difficult to decide which is better! Both are skillful modelers and I believe it will end in a draw! 🙂

20 May 2012, 22:01

@Christian, now there is no competition for the best cockpit built OOB, 🙂 how is the progres from your Dagger?
@Dirk, looking forward to the Fennek and ofcours to your Tornado 😉
thanks for the nice comments guys

The fuselage is glued together and the gaps are filled with putty. Got to do some research regarding the shape and position of the bomb carrying pylons. They are not included but needed to build an authentic load configuration.
21 May 2012, 06:00

Little progress, the bird have his colors, the next will be the decals, I'm sedisfited about the result of the painting, I have a few problems with the alclad, mine airframe aluminium reactited on the dark aluminium 🙁 and I can begin all over, sanding, blackgloss, alclad..... this time with a good result, wat is happen? I just don't now? did anywone had the answer plaese let me now 😉 greetz Phil
29 May 2012, 16:08

Tony from Alclad told me in a PM that the Alclad black primer is only to be used for the "high shine" Alclad finishes, not for the "regular" finishes. He was quite clear about this.
29 May 2012, 21:18

@Guido, I just followed the guys how has used the alclad colors, they added first a black gloss, I think it is event with color you added as long it is a gloss color, it was easy to tape off the black strokes, greetz Phil
29 May 2012, 21:35

Here is their "how to" advice from the Alclad web site:
alclad2.com/how-to/
@Guido, the "Polished Aluminum" is considered one of the high shine colours.
29 May 2012, 21:38

Absolutely. I've seen an F-86 done with the Alclad black gloss primer, then sanded with all of the grades of Micro-Mesh, up to 12,000 or some such ridiculous number, and then painted with the Polished Aluminum. Wow! Unbelievable effect. Absolutely looked like real polished aluminum.
29 May 2012, 23:03

The decals are on, thanks for the nice comments and for looking at the pix, greetz Phil
3 June 2012, 17:22

Mine is going to be a German reconnaissance bird so I´m not using these decals.
8 June 2012, 20:07

Thanks guys for looking and your nice comments
@Bill, go for it, the decals are really superb, the kit is not that great but price/qeaullity its sure OK 😉

18 June 2012, 09:05

Not so many dealers like in Helchteren. There were also less modells in the competition. But a lot of very well buit models on the club stands. Highlight was the german submarine bunker. You can see the fotos in the thred of Frank Krause.
18 June 2012, 10:22

Hi Christian, I've seen that bunker, wow en big, beautifull, it's always fun at these meetings, do you have meet any scalemates? do you have won gold with your models? 😉 greetz Phil

Greetz Phil
18 June 2012, 16:47

18 June 2012, 17:00

Mighty fin...LOL it's been a long time since I heard this!!! 🙂
18 June 2012, 19:47

Awesome build! I have the same kit and considering the German scheme (scheme C i think). But looking at the outcome of your project I'm seriously inclined to do the cat scheme hoping to get the same great outcome. Thanks for the inspiration!
19 June 2012, 02:34

I had English roomates while in Manchester Uni... that's why 😉
19 June 2012, 19:42

Manchester, Vermont? Gee, Aghis, you don't write with a Yankee accent. 🙂
20 June 2012, 00:15

You know something ? 🙂
I was in NY for a few years, so I picked up some Yankee...
20 June 2012, 12:17

25 June 2012, 20:42

Thanx again ,Phil.I think the Tank will be done until Mol.But i want to put in in a diorama, and that could be not enough time to do it.We will see.

26 June 2012, 16:12

Does anyone make the Italian Panther markings in 1:72 scale? Maybe I could do this scheme on my Revell kit.
26 June 2012, 17:12

Italeri do this kit in 1/72 as well: italeri.com/scheda.asp?idProdotto=1849
Probably costs as much as an aftermarket decal sheet.
26 June 2012, 17:25

@bill Italeri makes the same kit in 1/72 dunno if you can buy the decals separately.
26 June 2012, 17:31

Thanks guys for the nice comments,
@Dirk, thanks for the link my friend
@ Bill, just go for it Bill
