The first update shows some warping of the sideparts, probably not important but it could have been avoided by dividing this in subparts. Some sanding and filling was necessary, that being said these leveling jacks show up only in elevated mode.

The inside and the suspension are finished. today I discovered that there are problems with the wheel hubs, things look mirrored.

I removed the glass panes again because they don't shine through enough. Now I have the right paint and I added a scratch top pane. Also, the PE rack doesn't look like the real one, but that I'll abide. The steering system is made totally working with a pair of brass tube actuators.

The glass is repainted and is now more transparant.
5 December 2017, 21:34

I masked the clearparts and fixed the engine grille PE. The wheel hubs come together nicely.

Nice and clean build so far 👍
What color did you use on the windows? I am planning to start this kit in january too, so count me in mate
Cheers

Thanks, Moritz! It was Vallejo Clear Blue with also some Clear Green. When you study closely, it's a bit granular but this is only visible from a few centimeters away. Could be due to my airbrush needle being crooked too. Would be cool to see another Rhino rolling in!

The G6 is primed in red, because nobody does that. Or rather, because everybody covers the completed model in a layer of 'rooigrond' pigments, and I have a jar of that stuff on the shelf.
28 December 2017, 10:44

That looks interesting, like a heavy armed firetruck. looking forward to the camouflage.
28 December 2017, 11:48

Stay hooked, Moritz. Even when I'm going to do something silly like you can see in the next update...
28 December 2017, 22:43

She looks like that red APC they had on Top Gear a couple of years back 🙂
28 December 2017, 22:51

The red's already gone now, I sprayed some Deck Tan over it in my new booth. A drop of Flat Earth and it was tainted. I'm gonna do the two-tone version of the UAE.
30 December 2017, 01:06

UAE isn't gonna work, too many deviations from the kit. Also, what would be the pointof a rhino in the desert? So it was SANDF three-tone camouflage to mask off. But that had to happen in two sessions, not enough masking gum...
3 January 2018, 17:48

The green has been finished on the hull. Now the Flat Earth.
3 January 2018, 23:45

Some corrections are still needed, but the camo is ready.
6 January 2018, 10:42

The Rhino got some Pledge on it to apply the two small decals and then wash it with AK interactive filter. Now it starts looking really mean.
8 January 2018, 23:04

There will, Olly, you can find pictures of it in the album. Last weekend I bought the grass for it.
9 January 2018, 06:08

I painted the stakes white and red. I used to work with these a lot on excavations...
10 January 2018, 17:17

Shorter grass has been added, creating a pattern that can be recognised in the camouflage spotting on the Rhino.
21 January 2018, 10:30

Thanks, guys, it's just the challenge to give both dio subjects the kind of weathering to complete the standstill between the two. I bought a new camera to show you the drybrushing and rainmarks effects.
29 January 2018, 19:57

Nice, the small depth of field emphasizes your topic well. I use similar system, but nikon, however ive struggled to get large depth of fields to get entire model in focus. Well done on your shots
30 January 2018, 21:03

Thanks, I made some shots now of the unveiled windscreen and the front lights. Some areas are sprayed metallic.
31 January 2018, 17:14

Now the red pigment is on the underside of the model.
31 January 2018, 23:33

The pigments on the hull are looking very convincing to me. 👍 good job mate. Which wash did you use on the wheels?
1 February 2018, 06:26

Thanks, Moritz. On the wheels, I first airbrushed the textures with a light color, maybe it was Deck Tan or Flat Earth with a drop of blue in it. Then I varnished this because it soon showed fingerprints. The only thing I added afterward is the pigment I used for the undersides, some sort of mason's pigment that comes in a large pot and is brick red. I added a small percentage of white pigment but this had little noticeable effect. When this pigment was added with water and a pencil, it seemed to stick on itself, so I didn't even use fixative. To clean the tread surface of the tyres, I simply sanded them. Soon you'll get pictures of the now fixed wheels.
3 February 2018, 09:36

The dio is finished, both rhinos are filtered rust orange and given a dusty appearance, best visible on the pictures without flash. I mustered a crowd of kaffer buffalos to attend the spectacle.
