Qatar C-17 Build
1
February 3, 2019All the main parts glued and taped to ensure a good fitting.2
February 3, 2019Not as bad as it looked! A little filler needed on the wing roots.3
February 3, 2019All sanded and smoothed, along with a tiny bit of filler needed along the upper seam.4
February 3, 2019Damn!! Just realised that there is a gap on the leading edge wing root now!5
February 3, 2019Both outer nacelles needed a smattering of filler where they joined the wing.6
February 3, 2019If only I had realised, but these nicely filled gaps are actually meant to be left as gaps....7
February 3, 2019Had I realised....8
February 3, 2019All sanded down and smoothed now. Wings and tail all primed.9
February 3, 2019This is the primer I used - very cheap, but good quality. Thinned down with a bit of enamel thinners, it went on a dream. Brushed very smoothly indeed.10
February 3, 2019All primed except for the cockpit.11
February 3, 2019All done with no masking! A nice new, good quality brush, and a steady hand have done the job nicely!12
February 3, 2019Undersides painted in Tamiya X2 gloss white.13
February 3, 2019Another view.. not much difference to be honest!14
February 3, 2019Upper grey now painted on. Humbrol 128 proved to be a near perfect match to the real thing.15
February 3, 2019Gloss clear coat applied. The Humbrol is a satin finish.16
February 3, 2019Frontal aspect...17
February 3, 2019First of the big "Qatar" decals applied to the side.18
February 3, 2019Underside titles, and roundels now in place.19
February 3, 2019Oryx head in place on tail, and nacelles. Port side Qatar title in place too.20
February 3, 2019Winglet decals applied.21
February 12, 2019All decals barring the upper wing and fuselage walk lines applied.22
February 12, 2019View from behind...23
February 12, 2019Not quite finished, but thought I would see how she looked in the makeshift photobooth!24
February 12, 2019Yup - she looks grand!25
February 12, 2019Very pleased... Just the wingtip lights and rear ramplets to affix..26
February 12, 2019FINITO!!!! Really happy with this one.27
February 12, 2019A close up....

This has been a very pleasing build indeed. Worst bit has to be the stencil/overwing line decal placing. Very fiddly!
