Workshop
1
July 1, 2022So the basic layout is something like this.2
July 1, 2022The walls and the floor are made of xps.3
July 1, 2022Measured, cut, and made the bricks by the blunt side of a #14 blade.4
July 1, 2022The bridging above the window & the door is a separate piece.5
July 1, 2022Walls are ready to be painted.6
July 1, 2022Thick brick red as a base color.7
July 1, 2022Added some color variations.8
July 1, 2022The recesses were filled with grinded gluing material, then soapy water (to break surface tension) was applied with a pipette.9
July 1, 2022Side wall.10
July 1, 2022Bridging in this case is concrete colored xps.11
July 1, 2022The floor with added dilettations.12
July 1, 2022Cat accident: somehow the wall fell down, and my beloved kitty chewed on it... well, rebuilding it is.13
July 1, 2022The base of the roof, also from balsa, weathered with thin gray acrylic paint, and black oil.14
July 1, 2022Now the windows. Balsa wood, and the glass is from a lid of a takeaway container.15
July 1, 2022Weathered.16
July 1, 2022The handle is made from soldering material.17
July 1, 2022Finally in their places.18
July 1, 2022Now onto the doors. The material is 0.5mm plastic sheet.19
July 1, 2022I created everything from the same sheet, cut into stripes.20
July 1, 2022One is ready.21
July 1, 2022And now, painted in gray, weathering & rusting is yet to come.22
July 1, 2022For the workbench, I used this AFV Club kit (35302). It is most suitable for the Vietnam war era US workshops, but a workbench is a workbench nevertheless.23
July 1, 2022These came with the kit, and they are NOT decals, but finely printed on paper.24
July 1, 2022The bench has removable drawers! Painted the thing with some olive drab.25
July 1, 2022A bit of weathering by my beloved standard pencil.26
July 1, 2022The drill is a real gem.27
July 1, 2022The etched tools are from some Chinese seller on Ali. Yeah, shame on me.28
July 1, 2022But they do look good. Sprayed with Vallejo Dark Aluminum.29
July 1, 2022This shelf is made of balsa and matches.30
July 1, 2022Some weathering &panting.31
July 1, 2022Just to get some ideas of the layout.32
July 1, 2022Let's start with the wiring. I'm no electrician, as the pics perfectly indicate.33
July 1, 2022Yeah, the cables ain't straight, but alas, after so much vodka, yours wouldn't be either 🙂34
July 1, 2022Added some stuff onto the shelf, and to the wall (fire extinguisher).35
July 1, 2022At several companies here, mechanics & workshops use rags to clean up oil and stuff. Often these rags coming in transparent big bags, and are actual clothes cut up for this purpose. What I did, was to cut out a small piece of xps, then painted with loads of colors. Then covered the thing in kitchen cellophane, and it looks just like what we have 🙂36
July 1, 2022Heating was provided with a stove, and with coal. The box is again from 0.5mm plastic, the coal is what railroad modelers use under their rails.37
July 1, 2022Looking from the outside, with a bit of dirt.38
July 10, 2022The lighting.39
July 10, 2022Started the ceiling & roof.40
July 10, 2022The stalker glued into its place (maybe going to add some footprints).41
July 10, 2022Base of the ceiling.42
July 10, 2022In its place.43
July 10, 2022The test unit for the roof.44
August 1, 2022Roofing in progress45
August 1, 2022Added some tiles, cast from plaster using Diorama Debris' silicone mould.46
August 1, 2022More & more tiles47
August 1, 2022Peeling green paint (Vallejo 70.970 deep green). Will add tonal variation with oils48
August 3, 2022All the tiles are on. Was a bit tedious?49
August 3, 2022Sandind the edge tiles took a lot of focus.50
August 3, 2022And unfortunately, the inside is very dark... might install a small LED above the bench from the outside.51
August 3, 2022Backside.52
August 3, 2022Testing the weathering on a dummy piece.53
August 3, 2022Right side is untouched.54
August 3, 2022Some more effects, sponge with 3 different gray, and olive green, the moss is fine sawdust and pieces of sponge.55
August 3, 2022Just a reference shot.56
August 5, 2022Done some weathering. First, a filter of AK Dunkelgrau (AK704), then sponge application of Vallejo Basalt Grey (70.869), after that, MiG Ghost Grey (MiG-0203), and again a Dunkelgrau layer. This gave the tiles 3 things: uniformized the colors; gave similar impurities as the real tiles; and the vertical streaks. The moss is fine green sawdust, and some sponge.57
August 10, 2022Not so dark now, eh?58
August 10, 2022From another angle.59
October 25, 2023Okay, so back after a long hiatus! Repainting the doors, this time using the salt chipping technique. Base is Tamiya XF-64 red brown.60
October 25, 2023Color selected is RC321 (RLM76 ver.2)61
October 25, 2023So, salt removed. I must say, I like this method very much - and I just did it for the first time! Definitely gives way more subtle edges than, say, the liquid mask or chipping fliud methods.62
October 26, 2023Fun with AK pencils.63
October 31, 2023Creating the gutter. 0.15mm brass sheet, bent around a brush.64
October 31, 2023Primed with Surfacer 150065
October 31, 2023Added tonal variation with a light gray, sponge applied.66
October 31, 2023A Vallejo Game Wash gave it a pretty sweet hue!67
October 31, 2023AK Chipping Color pencil followed.68
October 31, 2023And glued onto the shed.
