I'm an American modeler into cars, but with planes, armor, ships and a very little Sci-Fi in my stash. I'm a motorsports announcer (42 years), with 20 years as an NHRA drag strip announcer here in Arizona. I own 2 dragsters and a '68 Pontiac Firebird 400. Hobbies include European travel, writing, & photography. Once in a while I work on models, too.
I own and drive a 1968 Woody Gilmore-chassied front engine ex-top fuel dragster, now with a Hilborn-injected 377" small block Chevy on alcohol. I just got it running, so no times to speak of yet.
I also own the Walton-Cerny-Moody Top Fuel car from 1972-73, officially the second car into the 5-second range with a 5.91 at Ontario Motorspeedway. It is currently undergoing restoration as a cackle car that can do burnouts & 1/2 track launches with a brand new Dale Armstrong-built all steel, period-correct 426 Hemi on 90%. It will hopefully be done for the California Hot Rod Reunion in 2015.
I'm the secretary for the IPMS Phoenix/Craig Hewitt Chapter, and do all of their announcing at Modelzona every year. I'm also a charter member of the Cactus Car Modelers, who put on the Desert Scale Classic each year in April, now one of, if not THE best such contest in the Southwest.
I announce drag racing at Wild Horse Pass Dragstrip (formerly Firebird International Raceway) in Chandler, AZ, and occasionally announce a motocross or two as well.
