Projekt: Macross Super Messiah

Macross kits aren't your typical shake and bake aircraft's kits. Although the assembly is pretty straight forward, the elaborate paint schemes will force you to paint bits of the fuselage in different colors and patterns prior to final assembly. These jets not only look great, but the engineering is well thought out as well. A lot of planning was needed to minimize the assemble-paint-assemble-paint-assemble stages. Enjoy!

OK - this kit is done! Hasegawa kits have always been top notch in my book, and this kit does not fail to impress!
The details are amazing - beyond Star Trek background design level. The decals certainly reflect the thought put into the fictional craft - down to the No Step and Beware Hot Gas warning labels. The fit and finish are top notch, and the instructions are very clear and concise. I hardly had to re-scribe any of the panel lines, and flash was non-existent.
This kit is a 4 out of 5 in difficulty not due to poor kit design (cough REVELL), but because of the vibrant color scheme - which forces the user to really plan things ahead of the final assembly. This is not a shake and bake kit.
As mentioned before, I opted to repaint the kit to give it that battle-worn look. It's not overly scuffed up - after all, the SMS team were the cream of the crop, and they generally took care of their machines.
It's a shame Hasegawa hasn't released this kit in 1/48th scale, it would have definitely been a hell of a kit to build! Highly recommended. 😀

thank you, gentlemen!
@guy - looking forward to your twin Warhawk builds!
@Олег - that Tomcat of yours is coming along nicely!

Dude, you've been busy! How did I miss so much greatness? I find it really hard to keep track of other's projects on here, even if I follow them. Btw how do you like those mission models colors? Saw them in the background. Tried them for the first time and it seems to be a mixed bag so far. One bottle is perfect for airbrush and another is thick like Vallejo Model Color despite all of them supposedly being airbrush ready.

LOL! I would hardly call my builds that great! definitely not the same level as your Star Wars builds! I used Mission Model paints when I restarted the hobby, but have moved away from them for the same reasons you pointed out: inconsistent paint from color to color, even the same color. I also noticed that they were very fragile and scratched or discolored easily when handled. I switched to Tamiya Acrylics and AK Real colors years ago - which are more consistent. Never looked back since! 😀

wow, I like the pre-shaded, not too strong, but the final finishing looking great!
