Thanks Choppa! I'm having a lot of fun. This one is a bit more intense than the other Ghibli scratch builds I've done... but I'm happy with the progress so far.

Just a quick update. I added most of the external cabin details, and more or less sorted out the final count of what's going to be included on the inside.

Wow, strangely beautiful, your'e a skilled scratchbuilder ! Is this completely out of the blue, or do you have some kind of template to refer to ? What is the story behind
" Ghibli" apart from being a desert wind ?

Thanks Hanno! "Studio Ghibli" is the name of Hayao Miyazaki's animation production company. So lately I've been crafting up some scratch builds in 1/72 of some of the "flying" machines from his films. I've been posting them as "Mystery" projects with the intention of seeing who can guess what I'm building. At least that part is fun for me (not sure if anyone else is enjoying that aspect".
So far Project A was revealed as the Powered glider (Mehve) from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Project B was revealed as the insect-like "Flapter" ornithopter from Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Project C is still under construction and still a mystery. Project D was revealed as Tombo's Propeller bike from Kiki's Delivery Service. Project E (this one) is yet to be revealed but you're free to hazard a a guess.😉. I also just started Project F, which was quickly revealed as a Daihatsu Midget DK from My Neighbour Totoro.

Just in case you've thought about making a backdrop for Ghibli builds 😄
Coming on great btw 🙂

Mind you easier enough to download one and print it off 🙂
but seeing as this is largely a scratch built project 😉 😄

Finally got some paint on this one. Most of the interior is done, but still a few more bits to do.

Thanks Spanjaard! It's finally starting to look a bit like I imagined it. Scary😉

Okay, so the interior is almost all done. Just a bit of a wash for depth before I seal it all up inside.
21 August 2017, 15:29

Let's hope so. I glued the two halves together tonight and for some reason the sides bowed in a bit and I couldn't close the gap. I had to do some emergency surgery with a bit of thin plasticard and some putty. I hope I can sand it into submission without wrecking any of the interior by accident.

How wonderfully creative Greg. 🙂
The wheels turn and the imagination has it all worked out.🙂
Sheer enjoyment to see the end product 'appear' and turn into something mystical and magical. I love it. 🙂 🙂 🙂 !

Thanks Kerry! It's amazing what getting a coat of paint on does for the morale. It starts to look like what you envision and suddenly you get a burst of energy. I'm glad you like it.

Alright. And there she is... done! The stand didn't quite work as well as I'd hoped. But since it's the first time I included any sort of lighting (even something as simple as this), I'm happy enough.

Thanks gents! The front cabin windows were almost a death match... the curved surface just didn't want to comply with my will. Luckily we both made it out the other side intact.😉

Thanks Antonio! Mostly my way of modelling consists of copying what other people are doing and trying my best to adapt it to my situation.😉

Album info
A little kit-bashed scratch-build of Fujimoto's submarine from the Studio Ghibli animated film, "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea." For the main hull, I used a modified 1/350 Cutty Sark (Academy). For the wings I used some parts from a random Bandai "Gundam thing". The rest is all scratch built.
