Fokker F. I - 1/48 Eduard - Werner Voss
1
September 7, 2022Assorted pieces, ready for painting and/or glue2
September 7, 2022Engine is very nicely detailed, just make sure you face the spring rods the right direction3
September 7, 2022trying different techniques for wood - wood grains draw with a pen for the floor, oil paints for the seat4
September 7, 2022Seat base is wooden deck, and umber oil paint as wood grain5
September 7, 2022The back shows better the wood grain6
September 7, 2022The floor doesn't look bad at all, although if the marker was red or brown it would be slightly better7
September 7, 2022The transparent wood decals work great, just weird that they are not properly shaped8
September 7, 2022Machine guns are going to be painted with X-10 gun iron9
September 7, 2022Cockpit ready and fits nicely10
September 7, 2022All set for cockpit sealing, no stress so far with anything, this Eduard kit is very detailed and has great fitting11
September 9, 2022The cockpit is very detailed and cozy12
September 9, 2022No problems with fitting at all13
September 9, 2022Closing the fuselage was easy and stress free14
September 9, 2022Build so far is going great15
September 9, 2022Ready for primer16
September 9, 2022Primed with Tamiya grey primer17
September 9, 2022Gluing the holders now so it holds strong18
September 9, 2022Vallejo light blue coat19
September 9, 2022cutting some crosses for the upper wing translucent effect20
September 9, 2022Painting white stripes21
September 12, 2022Masking for the olive drab coat22
September 12, 2022Adding the crosses under the wing, to simulate translucency23
September 12, 2022The crosses do not need to be very accurate, they will blend in24
September 12, 2022This propeller was done with deck brown, deck tan, and a great masking tape that lets you cut very thin strips, and bend them easily. look for curve canopy tapes.25
September 12, 2022I guess primer on top of a photo-etch part wasn't enough to get enough grip26
September 12, 2022The aviattic decals are nice, but the cone-shaped wheels make it fold, so you have to add a cut27
September 12, 2022The cut is visible, can't to better than this I guess. I would paint the wheel if I knew.28
September 12, 2022Adding the aviattic decals. They are actually very rubber-ish, robust and not fragile at all, they can take some abuse, but at the same time, they have a hard time to adhere.29
September 12, 2022They look great, but they need to be trimmed, and they fold on the wing tips30
September 12, 2022No amount of micro sol helps me with these folds.31
September 14, 2022Using white decals for the cross background, as I do not trust the striped decals to withstand mask tape32
September 14, 2022Engine ready with metal color aluminium, gloss coat and panel liner33
September 14, 2022Tail decal. I place it properly, maybe a little longer in the water, because...34
September 14, 2022..bubbles are showing up after micro-sol. This rubbery-like decals do not really conform nicely with micro-sol, instead it creates bubbles, so the whole decal job is botched maybe due to weak adhesive (too much time in the water)?, anyway, no way I am going to use masking tape on top35
September 14, 2022The decal is resistant, but it can be scratched. It is easily fixed by butting some extra stripes on top, it disguises well.36
September 14, 2022Ready for more decals. Note that the wheel winglet doesn't have an aviattic decal for it, so I had to make one. Good that they send a decal sheet big enough for 2 planes. This should be the rule.37
September 14, 2022Ready for gloss paint. This olive drab color is quite different from the one in the decals, but also, since they are transparent decals, the final color depends on the light blue tone. All I can do is to mix olive drab with lighter green to tone down, but it will be very hard to match.38
September 14, 2022Ready for gloss coat39
September 14, 2022Gloss coat: levelling thinner + tamiya X-2240
September 14, 2022Doing turnbuckles41
September 14, 2022Not that many turnbuckles, only need 442
September 14, 2022Werner Voss in 1/48 to join the party43
September 14, 2022Windscreen is in a film44
September 14, 2022I was afraid that gluing all wings was going to make decal job harder, specially around main wing struct, but actually, the problem is that the top wing should be glued properly, and I had problems making it stick.
If I could do a do-over, I would glue all wings, cut the decals so it goes around the wing pylons, then apply the decals. The wing integrity is more important.45
September 14, 2022All ready for weathering with a dull coat46
September 14, 2022Werner looks a little disappointed with the work so far47
September 14, 2022Quick weathering: smear panel line around the wing ribs, then scrub the excess off with mineral spirits.48
September 14, 2022Stretching sprue for cables, painting them with gun metal49
September 14, 2022Doing stretched sprue because I want to use plastic cement, but with turnbuckes, I had to use super-glue, so there was no really advantage.50
September 14, 2022Putting the air intakes again, with the help of a little lead wire. I removed them because they would for sure mess up the decal job on the fuselage.
