I have been building models from and very young age and never stopped.. My first model was a small PT Boat that my mom bought me at a 5-n-dime store. I remember I painted it orange it was cool!!! At 8 years old everything was cool.. By the time high school came around the hobby was not high on my list of things to do but never left the hobby. After high school came the Army and for some reason that is where the whole model building really took off. I would go to far away lands and find and buy model kits that would cost a good deal of money here for only a couple of bucks there. Being retired from the Army after 24 years you can only guess of the kits I have collected over the years. I found that model building helped with my recovery from wounds from combat and also with my PTSD. For me it was being able to do something with my hands and keep my mind focused that worked.
I love to build armor but as anything else sometimes you need a break and that is when I build 1/350 ships. I'm not a fan of PE for any scale kit but I do go after the metal barrels and brass propellers. I too like a little kick in my models but nothing like I have seen. lol lol
I also build 1/48 & 1/32 U.S. & British aircraft (Jets). I have a nice collection of 1/48 Tomcats A's, B's & D's - 1/32 Tomcats (all from Tamiya), 1/48 F/A-18 Hornets A's, C's, D's, F's - 1/32 Hornets (Academy only), 1/48 F-16's A's, B's, C's, D's, IDF aircraft - 1/32 F-16 (academy & Tamiya), 1/48 F-4 Phantom II & 1/32 F-4's. As far as W.W.II kits I only build P-51 Mustangs and F-4U Corsairs.
Model building will always have a special place and meaning for me and as a hobby it never get old or boring to me. As long as you keep it as a hobby you can fall in love with it again and again. Once you leave the path of it being a hobby to a job then the fun is gone and it only becomes a GRIND!!!!
Build for yourself first!!!
Thanks
Tom
