Strong Bacchus 1/35

Just started this kit last night at modelling night at our local games/hobby store. It’s definitely going to need putty and sanding… 

Visor has first coats of paint on. Added a wire spring to the bottom of the antenna. 

Nearly completed visor. Used aftermarket lenses for the sensors, and this still needs weathering. 

“Thighs” and “upper arms” hand painted with Flanker blue enamel. Chain in background will probably be attached to back of mech with scratch built parts. 

First coat of paint on the gun and figure. Scratch built wire supports for a chain I will wrap around the back of the torso, as it is kind of plain as is. 

Pilot figure in cockpit. When the kit is finished, you won’t see much of it. 

Feet and shoulder armour with first coats of paint. The lighting has given them a greenish hue that is not there in real life. 

Nearly completed gun with weathered ammo box. Again the lighting is not great. 

Torso side view with decals and chipping added. 

Torso rear with sponge chipping and decals added. 

“Waist” area parts painted, decals on, wash applied and chipping weathering applied. Matte coat is next, then final weathering. 

Covered up some nasty seam lines with sheet styrene. 

Thigh and foot decaled, weathered and top coated. Just need to paint lower legs grey and decal, weather, topcoat… 

Torso, head and waist mostly completed.

Arms completed. Just need to glue gun into right hand. 

Side, front and leg back armour plates completed. 

Back of torso nearly done. Still need to add small hooks for end of the chain (which still needs to be attached) to hang onto. 

Legs all masked up for the last bit of base painting left for this kit. Thank goodness for Blu-tack that covers up those awkward masking areas! 

The “tow chain” that will be wrapped up on the back of the torso. I found this chain on the ground while walking one day, and figured I could use it for something. 

Side hooks added to back of torso to hang chain onto.  

Tow chain loosely attached to check for fit. Not glued yet. 

I thought I would do a series of photos showing my weathering process for the lower legs. This is freshly painted (satin finish spray bomb) with decals applied. 

This has had a light wash applied. Doesn’t really show well in front view. 

Chipping with a sponge is complete. 

Chipping with a fine brush has been added. 

Other armour plates attached to legs, and matte coat applied (generic spray for artists). 

Weathering with pastels nearly finished. Used a very dark grey mixed from chalk pastels. I am happy to see how the decals start looking more like real markings after the weathering. 

Added some more subtle weathering with rust coloured pastel pigments, and both soot and dark rust weathering pencil. I want this mech to look well-worn, but not dilapidated. 

Front view of completed right leg. Attached final piece (hose/pipe?) and weathered to look rusty. Also added a few chips/scrapes with aluminum AK Interactive pencil.

Pretty much finished. Just need to take some better photos. Eventually, I will build a small base for it.
