That doesn't look like it would be all that difficult. I will have to try it on my next one. Did you see the photo's of my Monogram F-4J I posted today?

Hardest part are the curved lines, but they're not bad if you take your time. I did see yours, it looks good. I'm a big fan of colorful Navy jets. You should try black basing. It will help break up the finish a bit and add some tonal variation. If you take a look at my Hornets I finished recently, you'll see what I mean

I will also be applying a wash and weathering to the Phantom after it is all decaled.

I think I will try some post shading with the airbrush also, that will be a first for me but I saw a tutioral on Flory Models website today.

Eh, it's been slow going the last week or two. Just finished up getting the seams and stuff filled and smoothed. It's still not perfect, but it's gonna hide under paint and weathering. I started getting some canopy pieces put on. It'll be ready for paint soon...finally

Well, I'm finally at the point where I think paint can start going down. All the cockpit glass is on and masked. Canopies are temporarily glued in place for painting. Once the cockpit area is painted, the canopies will be opened back up and finished.

Impressive painting! What's that stand you've got the kit propped up on?

So close to wrapping this up. A few spots left to paint and mounting the weapons and drop tanks left to do. Then a final flat coat.

Very nice indeed Bryce,Mine is also near the end, just need to add the F.O.D. covers and RBF flags. Mine has been quite a challenge, of course having major surgery in the middle of it did not help much. LOL.

Bryce, it's very skillfully done. I was just comparing your black basing, and a post by Doogs of an F-104 that he black based. I think yours looks very convincing. The downside of black basing is that the finish on kits can end up looking more like velvet than paint on an actual aircraft. You've hit the latter on the head.

Thanks, Clifford. Is that your's that I saw on reddit today?
Thanks to you as well, Derek. You know, I wasn't really sure how well it was going to turn out doing the black basing with the SEA camo, but it turned out a lot better than I'd hoped for. It's still a little more stark in areas than I'd like it to be, but I think it may blend a bit more once I get the flat coat on. I was thinking about trying some dot filtering, but I think it may just be too much.

No wasn't mine on Reddit. Don't know how to put pictures up on there. All the pictures of mine are here on scalemates.

Cliff, you can just cut and paste the link for here into a comment on reddit.

Thanks, Gareth!
Clifford, then someone is making a Phantom identical to yours and at about the same stage in building. 🙂
