So internals about done.. now to dry fit glazing... oh and the ball turret blanking..
17 November 2020, 00:08

Wow, another big'un 🙂 Definitely an interesting subject too. Is that a giant antenna that's going to go on the top in front of the tail?
17 November 2020, 00:21

An other master piece by Augie. Boys, watch and learn, as this will be exciting. 👍 🙂
17 November 2020, 02:20

@ Nathan 🙂 thanks, yeah its a large piece of PE to fit.. although the resit ball turret blank will need some fettling to conform to the underside.
@Kezza Thanks Kezz, tho not sure about the masterpiece part.. my last few have been decidedly average lol
@ Clifford, usual seat buddy?
17 November 2020, 08:25

LOL. 🙂 Augie, you are far to modest my friend. 😉
Try annealing the metal bit for the ball turret before you start pounding on it. It could help. :-/
17 November 2020, 10:56

Thanks Kezza 🙂
the plate is a piece of resin which needs fettling
17 November 2020, 13:16

Augie. I didn't know the part was resin. So, please, don't pound on it. !!!!!
17 November 2020, 19:42

Lol its ok kezza, I didnt intend on beating it.. just some heat and bend..
17 November 2020, 21:04

Well kinda cheating.. If it cant be seen then I am not too worried about it.. hence basic paintwork inside 🙂
17 November 2020, 22:11

So its about ready to button together.
Paint is rough but given the condition of the glazing.. most of whats inside is not going to be visible or heavily distorted.
18 November 2020, 22:43

Soooo many comments about size to make...😉
Looking good. But those clear parts ARE looking kinda funky. Did they get scratched up or the like?
19 November 2020, 00:00

Lol thanks Don...
Nope, they all scratch free.. just very distorted.
19 November 2020, 00:33

I used the waist gunners detail set on mine and left the waist gunners windows open, the windows were funky. They are on my 1/48 Memphis Belle also, so it will get the same treatment. I found a decal sheet that has markings for all of the B-17's from the movie Memphis Belle, so it is going to be a hard decision rather I do the Belle or one of the others. LOL.
19 November 2020, 01:24

Thanks Michael 🙂
Ah ok clifford, from what I can see 100grp tended to button them up fairly tightly cause of all the gadgets they added.
19 November 2020, 09:50

I was not aware of that, thank you for letting me know, and duh just realized you are doing a RAF Fortress. Insert foot in mouth. LOL.
20 November 2020, 02:19

Thanks Roland 🙂 The revell kit is not bad.. its I think the oldest of the Big bombers mold wise so its not perfect, but decent.
20 November 2020, 09:21

So.. threw the piece of resin and replaced with a thin piece of metal which I cut and rolled to fit.. looks lot better.
Donks are started, going with the kit ones, their actually not that bad once painted up
Next up wheels and top cammo
21 November 2020, 18:39

Augie. The push rod tubes on the front of the radials can be replicated with some copper wire rolled straight. 😉
22 November 2020, 02:33

Hi kezza, yeah they are moulded so going to try picking them out to stand out.
22 November 2020, 08:04

So donks are done.. props are almost done.. and she is coming on very quickly
22 November 2020, 22:20

So slight repaint, the dark earth I was using was so far off spec it was silly.. found I had another and wow what a difference.
23 November 2020, 20:37

Thanks Clifford, really odd seeing a b-17 in raf bomber command colours.. so used to NMF and Olive drab!
24 November 2020, 03:48

Thanks Nathan😉 today will be PE day, lots of ariels to add to her and to sort turrets
24 November 2020, 08:48

I had not realized until you told me that the RAF flew the B-17, a nice change of colors.
24 November 2020, 22:30

Thanks guys,
@Don RAF had a fair few, starting with earlier types that costal command used.. these were the sneaky beaky ones that were used for very early electronic warfare.
25 November 2020, 01:15

So busy evening with it.. decals on.. PE.. on.. Ready for Nose glazing and chin radome.
25 November 2020, 01:18

I just read "instruments of darkness" about wwii electronic warfare. Recommended book on subjects like these. Answered a lot of questions like how did they prevent the d-day invasion fleet from being obvious to radar. Totally cool subject and build, can't believe I knew what it was
25 November 2020, 04:08

She's not that big, about 3ft wide and 3 ft in length. Her problem is all the aerials it has on.. made it an arse to hold and paint.
28 November 2020, 19:55

She's all done 🙂 I might put a matt coat over her but not sure she needs it.
28 November 2020, 19:58

Dude...at last throw a sheet over yur workbecnh and take some snaps!!
after all that work...the only photos we get include yur exacto knives?
...just kidding...mostly..but it does deserve more than just workbench pics, yes?
28 November 2020, 23:13

Once again Augie. You have stunned the modelling world with your skills and diversity. 👍
Very well done lass. 😉
And, we all learned something new again. hehehehehe 🙂 🙂 🙂
