I am an on-again-off-again model builder. I started in 1972 with a Revell 1/72 scale Messerschmitt ME 262. Since then, I have built aircraft, cars, ships, and tanks. Currently, I prefer the first two. I am trying to introduce the hobby to my son.

Scalemates has inspired me to research the history of the model kit hobby. I learned that there were manufacturers of model airplanes as far back as 1911! As I learn more about the early history of model "aeroplanes," I enjoy adding kits and publications from this bygone era of balsa wood, roughly 1911 to 1950.
