Personal Interest:
This model represents the MH-65D Dolphin helicopter operated by the US Coast Guard out of Kodiak during my tour at King Salmon Airport. Occasionally Coast Guard pilots would request aviation weather support from King Salmon, particularly when they were operating in the Bristol Bay area. The Coast Guard used this short range recovery helicopter primarily for search and rescue, but also law enforcement when required. Certified for operation in all-weather and night-time operations, with the exception of icy conditions, the MH-65 routinely deployed aboard USCG cutters, providing critical manned airborne surveillance and interdiction capabilities.
