PIBWLTey messed up with names. It is Dingyuan class battleship (earlier known as Ting Yüan or, Ting-yuën), with the second ship Zhenyuan (earlier Chen Yüan). Ching Yuan (Jingyuan) was a different cruiser.

RichmondI think Chin Yen could be correct; it's the name the Japanese gave Chen Yuen after they captured her at the Battle of Weihaiwei refer navypedia.org/ships/japan/jap_bb_chin_yen.htm as well as en.wikipedia.org/wik..se_ironclad_Zhenyuan.
I agree Jingyuan is a different cruiser - being either 1886 and 1887 versions. One falls under the Zhiyuen-class and the other a class I have not yet been able to determine. I think we have both versions on Scalemates.
Let me know if you do not concur.

PIBWL AuthorYou are probably right, that someone took a look at old form of Japanese name - although an accepted romanization is now Chin'en. Anyway, this name is not too good for a ship known for its Chinese, not Japanese service😉

RichmondYou make a good point - in 1885 it was still the Chen Yuen it was not until 1895 that she became the Chin Yen - very poor form by Modelkrak
