Spanjaard, regarding the wood effect: I sprayed a base coat of Gunze 'Sail Color' and then overpainted it with oils. I used roughly 1-part ochre to 2-parts raw umber and brushed that on with a small soft brush and sort of massaged it in. Thinning the oils a little bit works best. I then used a clean soft chisel-shaped brush to almost completely remove the excess to get the grain effect. After that, I set the piece aside to dry for a day or so and seal it with a coat of clear lacquer.
