I painted the cowlings today with Number Five Fluorescent Bright Orange and Number Five MP4 Red, the Tamiya mask guides helped but even though I used a plotter to cut them, they seemed to be a bit too small/didn't match the shapes perfectly.

I added decals to the cowlings, one of the repsol decals broke on the side cowling so I had to repair the "R" and "E" with a spare decal in the set. I need to cleanup the interiors before clear coating.

I finished it today, I posted a single photo of it but I'll make some more after I fix my lighting setup for photos. The kit was extremely good but time consuming as most of the internals were included. The fit was extremely good throughout and the only filling I needed to do was on some of the cowling that came in multiple pieces. Either I got a bad batch of both of the fluorescent Number Five paints, or they aren't the best. They both spat out dark spots of pigment after airbushing that was not possible to sand away, but it's not too visible at a distance. I haven't had this problem with their regular colors.

I like the result! Great Job! BTW which metallic paint have you used for the frame?

The frame is A-Stand(rebottled Alclad) Chrome over Gloss Black, it's my favorite paint for polished metal but is very fragile, it rubbed off as I was handling the model and i had to touch it up at one point.

I also had the same problem with Mr. Metallic paints. They give a glossy metallic finish, but easily come off with a touch. Now, I'm mixing them with GX100 clear, and they've become much more durable 🙂

I clear coated the exhausts with Halloway House Quick Shine floor polish which seemed to work fine to protect them, but it's a bit tricky to spray. I heard Alclad Aqua Clear is also good for protecting metallic paint without diminishing the shine too much. I haven't tried mixing metallic paint with clear coat, but I guess it has a similar effect in strengthening the paint.
