Good evening,
I am currently building the Tu 22m3 1/72 and the tu 160 1/72 from Trumpeter. Since both models have to be painted in white I bought the glossy white spray from Tamiya (TS-26). but when I tried it I noticed that it is very strange and the color does not cover well. My questions: 1. since both models actually have a glossy white paint (I think), I would paint Tamiya TS-27, the matt white paint, and then paint over it with glossy or semi-glossy gloss paint from Mr Hobby (Mr Hobby H30). Would that work or would it look strange? What other advice would you give me? 2. which cheap white spray can you recommend for both models, because I have also heard that many have painted their Tu 160 with a car paint spray that is much cheaper than Tamiya, because I would then have to buy 3x Tamiya cans that would be over 30€.
Many thanks for your answers!

Hi Madri,
I have been wondering about this Issue too because I'd like to build the An-225. I think best way to do it is to apply a white primer first, either Tamiya fine surface primer from the spray can or a cheap one from the hardware store. Just make sure it won't melt your plastic. Then you can spray Tamiya TS-26 white over it. Or again, you can also use a paint from the department store. In any case, try on test piece beforehand if both paint and primer are compatible with each other and the plastic. If you use tamiya for both you can skip this step of course. In any case, first white primer, then white paint. That is how I would do it.

I have another question. Unfortunately I noticed that the missile cabins are not suggested in the correct color by Trumpeter. I searched the internet and found how someone painted the missile cabins correctly here is the link :flankers-site.co.uk/modl_tu-160-trump.html (you have to scroll down a bit) can you tell me what colors he used for it, so once this red, the orange and the gray. I don't care if Mr Hobby, Tamiya or Vallejo. Thanks a lot!

I am working with Tamiya so that is where I would start:
orange: Take Tamiya yellow XF-3 and add a bit of red XF-7, not too much. 10:1 10:2 ratio I would say
red: Hull red XF-9 + Red XF-7 1:1 ratio should do, maybe 1:2
grey: don't stress over grey, neutral grey XF-53 or any other grey will do, just add a little white to make it lighter
Try these ratios on a test piece, you can add more or less of either color to your preference

Many thanks for your efforts! Someone recommended Mr Hobby H310 (brown), Mr Hobby H 7 (red) and Tamiya XF 63 (gray). Would that be the better choice because it is without mixing? I have another question and that is that the two panels that open on the rocket bays are painted in a yellow color on the inside and have lines like that, do you know what colors were used for that? So the yellow and the lines? You can recognize these "openers" on this link: de.pinterest.com/pin/352336370833351529/

. I have also just noticed that the front wall of the weapon bay is painted in a brown-green color. Could you tell me what color that might be? I have another question and that is that the two plates that open at the missile bays are painted in a yellow color and have such lines do you know what colors were used for this?
