I have scanned an instruction manual for a Gecko kit, and the resulting PDF is 33.3 megs which exceeds the 25 meg limit for uplodad. Can the upload limit be increased?
Unlikely

Any chance you could scan at a lower resolution so the file isn't so big?
Scalemates has to store a staggering amount of data and storing data isn't cheap. Which is why I suspect there is a 25 meg limit.

I use this site:

Thanks Eddie, that worked. I did try another site to reduce the file, but it was still over the 25meg limit.

Most scanning software allows you to adjust the quality and compression level. Look for settings like "image quality" or "file size" and set them to a lower value to reduce the file size. A screen typically needs 72 dpi so your scan could go up to 200 pages

by the way, if disk usage is a problem, scalemates could implement an automatic file reduction script able to read the characteristics of incoming files (and foto's), store the originals off-line, and have an on-line library of files/foto's with reduced size for screen viewing. I expect that many here are uploading foto's with high dpi irrelevant for screen use. But this probably already happens

Off-line and on-line storage, doesn't that increase the required storage?

yes and no. you need additional storage but not necessarily on your main servers, but more in a backup kind of orientation somewhere else.

Maintaining smaller files on the main servers leads to smaller bandwidth use, and smaller disk needs

but I guess that tim knows much better than me 🙂
