What is to everyone's opinion more popular when it comes to modelling - Dioramas or individual models?

I love to see a well built model with or without a dio....although it's always better with.
The trouble is I always want to start on a new project rather than make a dio. 😳

To my mind, I am an inexperienced modeller but in my eyes, I love the whole concept of it all. The patience, the taking the care when it comes to smallest of details, for instance installing landing gear which to my mind is always a fiddly challenge, attaching tank or armoured vehicle extras like searchlights, ammo boxes or even like antenna, each part provides a challenge from all angles. I became hooked on modelling again when I was saved literally by my Father who gave me the spirit to get back into modelling during a very challenging stage of my life, which is fair to say is still with me. I am still learning about techniques all the time but I would love to get as much advice and tips whenever, this is a place where I have seen the pure spirit and heart of modelling on display! I made my first ever Diorama not that ago for a close friend of mine whose partner is suffering from Dementia and I absolutely loved producing it from start to finish.

I think that craft is a hell alot more entertaining then a video game - it gives you the opportunity to think and use information to produce a piece of brilliant model making. I will hopefully share images of my work, hope you will do me a great favour in telling me what you think. 🙂

Well, welcome back to the hobby Chris. I would guess that the majority of the Scalemates members are 'returnees'. Modellers when they were young and then felt the urge to try it again later in life. I also know of quite a few modellers who take up modelling again as some sort of therapy, I did. I hope it helps you as well.
I love it because you can adjust it to just the correct level of difficulty, whether you just want an easy out of the box build or a full scratch-build. With each successive build you can try a new technique each time or you can say with what you are comfortable with and just have fun. I started with 1/48 aircraft but I felt that wasn't challenging enough to keep me interested, so I now mainly build 1/72 or 1/76 scale vehicles. Scalemates is a brilliant place to learn skills from other more experienced modellers.
Sometimes I'm in the mood to add a diorama and sometimes I'm not. Generally I feel I should at least make a base when I scratch-build something.
There are some modelling sites/forums which aren't particularly friendly, fortunately Scalemates is one of the best. A lovely group of people.

Not something that is plain to see in the modern world of online forums, some people tend to lose the idea of respecting other people's views and opinions and honestly it really is a nice change of pace and mood when you come across a community which welcomes you! Honestly I was so impressed by your Panther, one of my favourite tanks in the world. Balance of firepower, protection, mobility and deadly in the right hands. I am so grateful that you took to my comment, I just want to share amongst the family! 🙂 Plus for me 1/48 I love because at times usually the pieces are to a size which I can handle, 1/72 for me at times become very fiddly and my steady hands are not capable lol.

You might surprise yourself. I also originally chose 1/48 because I didn't think my hands could manage anything smaller – mainly because I have very little feeling in my fingertips. With practice I can now work on very small parts.

I am not giving up the idea of doing 1/72's in future it is just for me, I have plenty of kits to keep myself amused for. I guess I doubt myself alot of the time in my ability. Been a problem at a very recent time. But modelling gives me confidence each time I make one. I don't just like doing it, I adore it
