Nakajima Jill Progress
1:48
It is finished. The wings can be detached and put in transport configuration as seen in this picture.
Project: Nakajima Jill
64 11 May 2018, 19:29

I've started the builsd of the Nakajima B6N Tenzan (Jill) from Hasegawa. The cockpit is finished. 🙂
11 May 2018, 19:32

Thanks Erik! 🙂 It helps when the kit is so nicely detailed. Didn't use alot of the PE from the Eduard kit.
11 May 2018, 19:49

Hasegawa always puts a bit more detail in cockpits of Japanese planes it seems! Your talent turned it into a gem 👍
11 May 2018, 20:35

Wow this is what I'm calling a nicely detailed, excellent colored and perfect weathered cockpit. Great work so far.
11 May 2018, 21:30

Now that is super impressive Bjorn. 👍
The time and effort to produce these results are simply outstanding mate. 🙂
SALUTE. 👍
11 May 2018, 22:05

Thank you Marko and Kees! 🙂 I really like this kit. It fits together really well too. Not much putty and sanding. 👍
12 May 2018, 13:01

Thanks Ed! 🙂
I just took a razor saw to the canopy for the first time to split it open so I can have parts of it open when it's finished. That was a bit hairy, but it went pretty well. Puh! Pictures coming at a later stage.😉
12 May 2018, 21:14

That Cockpit looks fantastic, splendid details and very authentic weathering!
13 May 2018, 07:07

Thanks mates! 🙂 As Thomas mentioned, now I only have to build a plane around it too😉
13 May 2018, 14:39

A couple of mood shots as the evening sun is shining in through the window. I've done quite a bit of work during the weekend with the engine and front end assembly and sanding of the fuselage and wings. Next will be masking the canopy and to start laying the camo colors down.
13 May 2018, 19:06

Thanks James! 🙂
I've finished the painting of the fuselage and wings. I still need to clean up some lines after spraying the yellow, but after that it's time for a clear coat and decals.
14 May 2018, 18:50

I have seen some stunning builds appear here in the hallowed halls of Scale Mates, but this one is destined to be in the hall of fame. 👍
Perfect in every way. SALUTE. 👍
14 May 2018, 22:46

Thanks Thomas and Kerry! 🙂
@Kerry, You are making me blush😉 Perhaps if I took better pictures you would see all the mistakes I have made along the way. Cheers mate!
15 May 2018, 17:53

Todays update. Decals are done and most of the small parts are finished. Only the torpedo left to build. After that its's time for weathering.
15 May 2018, 18:01

Bjorn. ! How dare you correct me. !!! I know what I see, and so do all your mates. Now, get back to work. !! :-O We want more of your stunning results. 🙂 🙂 🙂 👍
15 May 2018, 19:12

Thanks Kerry, Gordon and Clifford! 🙂
I'm working hard, hardly working..😉
16 May 2018, 04:55

You can see your hard work! Really astonishing what you do are doing there. I can remember when I build this kit some 15 years ago... with my first tries in A/C weathering. I can also remember there are some positioning lights on top of the wings. I applied white first and then clear blue and red over it. The contrast is very high so today I would use a light grey or sillver as base colour for them.
16 May 2018, 06:56

Thank you Sven! 🙂
And also thank you for the tip about the painting of the position lights. 👍
16 May 2018, 07:12

Really nice work, I like it very much. Perfect cockpit and painting, I really like the blue color 🙂.
17 May 2018, 12:45

Thank you Sören, Miro and David! 🙂
I'm closing in on the finish line. Some detail painting and some more weathering still to do.
17 May 2018, 20:59

Thanks Essi, James and Sven! 🙂
The Nakajima Jill is now finished! I really liked building and painting this kit. It has alot of nice detail and a great fit.
I decided in the end to glue the wing tips in the flying position as they became too loose otherwise. So no more folding of the wings..
19 May 2018, 05:37

Well Bjorn, I have seen many models pass into Scale Mates history here, but as I said before. This is bound to end up in the "Hall of fame' when one is started.
Just exquisite in every way. Congratulations mate. 🙂 🙂 👍
19 May 2018, 05:54

hello Björn, Japanese are not my prey, and yet from to the model a WOW, great work 👍 👍 👍
19 May 2018, 06:14

Thank you Kerry, Jens and James! I'm really happy that you guys like it! 🙂
19 May 2018, 07:22

Thanks again Kerry! Your enthusiasm is truly inspiring! 👍 I'll have to start looking for something else to build.😉 It looks like it will be a Wildcat..

scalemates.com/kits/1013727-..9183-supermarine-walrus-mk-i
my suggestion, it will take more time 😉 🙂
19 May 2018, 09:16

Thanks Erik! 🙂
@Jens, are you trying to slow me down?! 😄
It looks like really nice kit, and I love flying boats. 👍
19 May 2018, 10:50

Looks great Björn! Pitty the wings can't be folded anymore - I liked the look of it with wings folded - reminded me of a bird at rest
19 May 2018, 12:56

Thank you Sören, Thomas and Timothy! 🙂
@Thomas Me too. I probably could have saved it with a little better prep work and perhaps a steel rod instead of the plastic. I only had to glue one of the wings, though, so it can still make a salute _o7.😉
19 May 2018, 14:47

The result is outstanding. I admit with the decent weatering. The Details with the flaps and folding wings are beautiful.
20 May 2018, 14:32

Thank you Miro! It means a lot! 🙂
Watching your builds inspires me to build more Japanese planes. They are beautiful! 👍
20 May 2018, 17:13

Wonderful build Björn! Did see that beauty too late- would have liked to follow these great build. Cockpit looks gorgeous!
20 May 2018, 17:41

Björn. Take a deep deep bow mate, as you have certainly made your mark with this amazing build. Have no doubts. 👍
22 May 2018, 02:36

Thank you gentlemen! I'm taking a bow to you guys for being so nice! I really appreciate it! 👍 🙂
22 May 2018, 21:02

Sorry, Dave for not answering your question earlier. I've been taking a break from model building for a couple of months.
The wash I used for the top side is a simple oil wash made with Abteilungs ABT155 Light sand and Tamiya X-20 Enamel thinner.
Good luck with your build! 🙂
25 July 2020, 12:56

Actually your timing is perfect. I've just applied the clear coat so she is ready for a wash! A great build, thanks for the inspiration 🙂
25 July 2020, 15:18

Very nice job Bjorn. Is it possible to just leave the cowl off or open ie I plan to buy the PE detail kit and it would be a pity to hide that engine. Cheers
9 August 2022, 09:01

Thank you very much mates! 🙂
@Paul, I uploaded an image from the instructions (no 49) so you can see the assembly of the engine and the cowl. I hope that answers your question.
9 August 2022, 20:02

Imponerande fin och ren jobb!
Ser supercool ut, definitivt en modell som jag vill bygga.
Fin vädring också. Använder Du akryl?
17 August 2022, 18:13

No more to add to my other comments, but a big well done and you should be proud of your effort. Salute. ! 🙂 👍
17 August 2022, 21:14

Thank you mates! 🙂

31 October 2023, 04:27

How wonderful to see your superb work back with the finishing touches. 🙂
IIt just so happens I have just started a 1/72 scale 'Val' that will eventually end up as part of my Takom 1/72 flight deck of the 'Ikagi' on her way to bomb Pearl harbor, along with 3 Zero's, and 2 Kates. and a deck flight crew of 50 figures waving them off. !
Seeing your exceptional detail work, it has inspired me to the best I can with what I have on my workbench that I hope will look good here on Scale mates.
Thanks again for posting your treasured build for us and the new ones here to marvel and soke in your talent.
Cheers.
Kezza. 👍 🙂
23 November 2024, 01:19

Thanks Mates! It's been a while since I built something now, but hopefully I will get some time for a new project during the winter 🙂
24 November 2024, 07:45

@Kerry COX
You are always so nice and generous with your comments, Thank you again! 👍
I'll be sure to follow your build of both the "Val" and the Akagi flight deck, it sounds epic in 1/72. 🙂
