Great idea with the dowels and wire brush. Can't wait to see how it turns out with paint.

i love that wire brush trick!! thanks for the tip - your son has your nose and mouth - good job on getting a slave to do all the boring stuff!! (jk)

Good work, both! I'm watching closely, learning and being inspired! I'm curious if the lights will feature?

Wauw! Thanks for your curiosity guys! I'm excited too to see where this goes!
@Bobby: haha, thx for the feedback on my kid! Well... If I were to pay him, I could be accused of childlabour, haha

Count me in. I'm planning a winter dio and looking forward to this. Like the work on the trees, they look good
26 June 2023, 20:19

Well, I'm not really convinced by the trees. My wife went to Finland a couple of years ago and told me the snow must be much more. So I felt a little confused and demoralised. Planning to test another method on other trees to have them replaced of have some variation in the wood... don't know yet.

Hello, Mathias, your trees are looking really fine! If you like to build up thicker snow on the twigs, I can recommend Vallejo Water Texture Acrylic Foam Effect, which can be poured from the bottle in several layers to build up a thick result. But maybe you are already beyond this, since the last comment here was from June, 28th- just my 2p 🙂 Many greetings!

Thank you Joachim, I think I will. What I have now gives the good impression, but I'm not that happy with the detailled view... it's to grainy. Thank you so much for the tip. I thought snow would have been more... simple

Wow,now the twigs look really fantastic. I really admire how deep you are into the details. Chapeau!

@ Guy: welcome on board!
@ Joachim: happy to read such an enthousiastic comment! It took me some experimenting and good advice like yours to reach a good imitation, thanks again!
It's true, I'm not easy to please and I am taking this as far as I can. I have made some progress in the project now, but because everything is now in place and I just need to do some more figurepainting and accesoires before I can finish this up, I'll stop posting pictures of the dioramabase until I'll post the final album. I want to keep the full impression until the end. I will post the progress of the figures in the other album, though.

Excellent progress! The snow sets the scene, so will patiently await the grand unveiling!

My pleasure, for sure! I can understand, you want to keep the full impression for the very end, this is how I go, too. Even, when I decided for a material, that needs loooots of patience and puts me to a hard test this time, I believe, it is worth waiting for, and about enjoying to see, that the sweet final realization is on its way. I hope everything works out the way you wish it to, best greetings from Düsseldorf!
btw: I love the looks of the AK Microballoons (?) I MUST give them a try, too
5 August 2023, 20:02

@ Bruce: thanks mate, comments like yours give me confidence that I'm on the right track! Happy to have a patient audience.
@ Joachim: Patience is key in this hobby for sure! The AK microballoons give a very nice snowy texture! Only it's easily blown away when you put the sand and gravel fixer first like I was adviced, it's dificult to stack it high to actieve a snowlayer. Therefore the acrylic foam did that job. Then I've put the fixer in a spraycan to spray all over to make sure everything sticks, but it is a tricky process. It's a real dusty product.
