02 - Painting the King Tiger

the only reference what I find for painting of the real thing, the others is the box and the manual! 😄 

lets start the primer!  

 

 

wheels and links already with Vallejo primer with the color I use for the base of rust tones 

colors made with Italeri acrylics, my mix to get the tone I wanted it to be! 

first coat of paint for color testing! I didn't like it, I wanted it a little clearer! 

 

wheels already painted and camouflaged 

to start preparations to make rust with pigments 

I used these pigments from Parabellum, provided by João Baroni 

the colors what I use in the Track Links 

I apply the pigments randomly 

then I spray the parabellum fixing varnish everywhere the pigments are! 

let it dry well, at least 24 hours! to dry very well! 

after the dry pigments just pass a hard and dry brush all over the wheel to remove the excess pigments and seal everything with a light layer of matte varnish, you have to apply it by spraying, it cannot be too wet or it loses all the rust and dirt effect 

wheels already ready and in their proper places to never leave again, then the mudguards are glued 

then the exhausting and annoying part of isolating the wheels begins to paint the chassis of the tank! 

good thing that this stage only takes place on King Tiger, E-50, E-75 and subsequent ones, not to all German tanks, as the wheels do not enter after the fenders are glued in place 

let's start with the base layer of Dunkelgelb RAL7028 late 1944-45. this is my mix made with acrylic paints from Italeri 

 

 

 

 

after the very dry base we will start painting the characteristic camouflage of the s.Pz.Abt 505 

 

 

a dry-fit and we will start the weathering, here the tower together to see the color difference that occurs in the Dunkelgelb right after the start of the wash layer 

 

here the tower already in the wash too and I choosing how and where to leave the extra wheel 

 

matte clear coat apply 

spare wheel already painted, with its own colors, different from the vehicle 

painting practically finished! now is to assemble and paint the spare track links on the side of the tower
