Very interesting, I have tit waiting in my stash. What do you think about the kit?
Looking good, by the way

Hi Spanjaard, thanks for joining in.. it a very nice kit, seam lines are tight and line up. Engine is a bit of a fiddle to fit in the front bulkhead and cockpit a bit sparse. But everything fits, nice consistent panel lines. The only thing are the guns are a faff and I found hard to assemble as you have to join separate magazines to each gun with a tiny mating face, best use cyano. (I didn't bother to fit them as I was closing the panel permanently. I found the covers to be slightly oversized but a gentle clean with very fine paper , (maybe very tight tolerance with the paint).
The air brakes drop right in and are such a good fit that I couldn't get them out after a trial fit !!!
You'll enjoy building this 😀

Boy, that's nice'n shiny ! Did you polish anything before or after painting, or ist it just black primer plus metal ?
9 September 2022, 10:49

Hi Hanno and welcome, polished the plastic then applied the Alclad gloss black then the chrome and aluminium.
The aluminium can be polished to shine it a bit closer to the chrome if needed

No cockpit shots yet as I've a load of eduard bits to fit. Decided to do this after closing the fuse… it may have been a mistake but we'll see 😬

Polished aluminium is definitely the way to go, slightly less shiny than the chrome I used.. 🤔

Hi David, great finish! I have this kit myself. Got as far as doing the cockpit then set it aside to chase something else but good to know the kit goes together well and areas to watch out for. Do you lay down a clear coat over the Alclad? I've seen pros and cons to that and just wondering what your opinion is.

I've got Alclads aqua gloss to use. I'll probably try it on the underside of the wings first to see how it goes on and go from there. This is my first time using Alclad so it's been a bit of an experiment.

Looking great!
I did a side by side with this kit and the old Monogram boxing of this plane.

Hi Donald and welcome , very nice and pretty much mirrors what I'm finding. Wing sweep looks hugely different between those 2.
I have the Escii kit to do as well as this but it can wait a bit.
James that's very kind of you to say. It's a bit too shiny for my liking but , hey ho, next time 😉

So, clearcoated and started decalling. The aqua gloss has toned down the shininess and looks more natural. So for me , that's a win.. anyone building this kit BEWARE THE DECALS.. very nicely printed, but slightly on the thick side. Not as thick as the Tamiya f4 tho, BUT they have a tendency to curl up on themselves when removed , or even on the backing.
On the plus side they settle into panel lines really well despite their thickness.

Fantastic result David 👍
Any issues to be weary of with the decals?
Not far off doing mine now and will be happy if it turns out just half as nice as this.
17 November 2022, 17:11

If you can I'd recommend painting the strip around the fuselage, I had problems underneath where it comes together. As for the decal quality see above about the curling.. they have a random tendency to curl up.

Great result sir! I had the same issue with the body stripe meeting up on the underside. Had it with the Monogram one as well. At least it isnt just me. LOL
17 November 2022, 23:28

Excellent result, the weathering toned down that chrome very nice 👍🏻
18 November 2022, 14:49

Jan, I think it was more the handling that removed some of the shiny 😂😂 but yes, the wash also helped
26 November 2022, 16:58

Oh hello... what a shiny metal beauty. Excellent finish and weathering there David.
28 May 2023, 16:28

Ah yes , the accidental weathering. It was far too shiny and by pure accident handling it without gloves and gentle repolishing gave it a nice toned down look as the black base showed through randomly..
28 May 2023, 18:00

I'm glad for the late comments, it gives me a chance to see this beauty too. Very nice.

Had another run through the photos to study the superb paint work and noticed in the last picture (#28) how the difference in the metal panels shows through the yellow wing flash; excellent effect David 👍
31 May 2023, 01:16

Guys you are all too kind, this was an experiment with nmf with much accidental success ..
31 May 2023, 07:03

But those are the best kind of successes! The only problem is figuring out how to repeat them...
31 May 2023, 14:19

I wish I could paint like that. I really like the subtlety of the paint on the seat. That makes it look real - sun bleached and dirty.

Thanks for the comments John and David Culp , also for the like Stefan 👍🏻

I'm sure I typed Roberto not Bruno.. so once again I'm overwhelmed by your comment @Roberto Rocat
