Yeah, I pre-ordered two, and bought another when it was released. I need to stop buying kits! LOL
This project will be an in-flight build, modeled after the Tomcats from the movie "The Final Countdown". Not sure if it will be Victory 202 or 203. These have a unique VF-84 scheme, it is Gull Gray over White, but the upper horizontal stabs and wing control surfaces are Gull Gray, not white. Will use OOB decals and find the 202 or 203 from another sheet. I am sure I have one somewhere.
Also might have to do an A6M Zero or a T-6 Texan (which was made to look like a Zero for the movie) too. 🙂

Great movie, great paint scheme! You can never have enough Tomcats!🙂

my F-14 Will also be "final countdown", so i am going to follow this build closely.... mine will be 1/72 but it will be a good example anyway 🙂 and it is always nice to follow your builds😉
you could actually do both the 203 and the 202, and then add a 1/48 zero..... 😄

I am going to do the same build! I emailed Lone Star Models and he said he is planning to re-pop the 'Hollywood Zero' conversion soon.
Don't forget to add the two kill marks if you do 203.
You might have seen it, but some neat stuff here...

if you make both flying, you can not put the Japanese flags in the tomcat😉

Haha. If want to capture the continuity error of the movie, you MUST add the kill marks. You can see them on 203 in the first photo of this thread. I guess they were added before the flying scenes were shot 🙂

Thanks everyone for the interest! It seems this movie has quite a following. This movie IS the reason for my love in aviation, and VF-84 in particular. I saw it as a kid and was just in awe.
Also, I just learned that Fightertown Decals is coming out with a new sheet soon that focuses on VF-84 through the years. Brian Plescia (owner), said there will be decals for Operation Eagle Claw, The Final Countdown, and Executive Decision, as well as others throughout the years. This will probably have the Zero Kill markings on it. It will be a definite MUST HAVE!
Anyway, I will not put the Zero Kill markings on it, since that would mean they went back to the future then back in time again to have the kill markings before killing them... um, I think... Too much time travel for one movie! LOL
But it is interesting that LoneStar is going to repop the Hollywood Zero conversion. Is that in 1/48? I might have to get that...

Very cool. I will keep my eyes out for this sheet. Loved this movie, as a kid... Still do.
And, yes. The Hollywood Zero is 1/48
