Final position of the arm.
(Did I mention that I hate the plastic used for these figs?
It's soft and brittle in a weird way, making it very hard to work with.
It doesn't "want" to get filed and getting the flash removed is a nightmare.)

Using blue stuff, the bottom half of the mould is made.
Of course, I forgot to make alignment marks...
(Did I mention I haven't done this since a few years?)

The bottom half is then turned around and the top halve is pressed onto it.
(Note the gaps between the blue stuff and the metal.)

The two halves are separated, turned around and the 3 "pouring holes" enlarged somewhat.

To avoid to much flash, I tried to fix the top to the bottom halve.

The result? A TOTAL FAILURE!
The resin flowed around the mould and stuck to the glass that supported it all.
I had to break the glass to try to recuperate anything, but to no avail.
Oh well...

When at first you don't succeed, try, try again! This time with silicone!
Using resin cast frames (GSW), I put a layer of plasticine (*that's strike two on stupid errors!*) and pushed the objects into it, then sealing them by pushing the plasticine in all the nooks and crannies.
Didn't forget to make some alignment marks this time. Learning my lessons?

Demounting the frame, the plasticine needed to be peeled away. Getting the red and blue stuff off the pink one took AGES!
Lesson 2: never again use plasticine for this, just to spare some money, and get the right stuff next time.

This is the result: of course, I hadn't used enough pray to separate the two silicone layers and I had to cut the moulds by hand, obliterating the alignment marks. This means that the pour left quite a lot of flash that needs to be cleaned.
The mould at the left is perfect (one part moulds are soo much easier) and the one in blue stuff is a one time to get a copy of a fig for another project.

The result after a first roughing out:
One directly usable wheel, one with a few holes that I could fix. The broken wheels are from the blue stuff test and will be used in the diorama.

I made my very first 0.3mm holes. They are so small that even my macro function didn't capture it correctly.
0.3mm... I was sure I would break the drill. Nope.

Compared to my documentation, there quite a lot of detail missing here:
No breach mechanism, no struts to support the beak-arms, no breaks at the arms, no protection for the recoil mechanism, no aiming scope, the list is long.

The short recoil recuperator was wound with thick rope for protection. Done.

I'd like to show the canon at the time of firing. Therefore, the recoil recuperator needs to stay in it's position while the canon itself needs to be in a rearward position.
The two parts are separated, but there's quite a lot to do left to get this effect done.

Looks like an interesting project.
Incidentally, on the wheels the wood-grain is the wrong direction on the rim. It should be run all the way around the rim in short sections as shown in this video:

I'm currently trying to make something out of the figs: why should someone who is 5 km from the actual front wear his haversack, bayonet, etc.
Dremel to the rescue!
This project is getting harder by the minute, I'm finding soooo many flaws in the kit the I'm thinking of changing my nic to "bug*finder*". 😉

Album info

The EMHAR WWI Artillery with 18 pdr gun kit is, let's be honest, very light in details.
I'd like to make something more complete, realistic and historically accurate, with a diorama and the regulatory number of servants (6 instead of the 3 coming in the kit).

As I'm working on several projects on the same time and I'm experiencing some very annoying tremor problems in my hands, the project is advancing at a "snail on xanax" pace.
