Yeah. The Convair XP-81 and Republic XP-84 were proposed in the relatively short period in the late '40s, early '50s when jet engines were relatively under-powered and gas guzzlers. The idea was to use the turbo-prop to increase range for ingress and egress, and use the jet engine for combat when in the combat zone. While they were experimenting, engine technology improved, making them redundant.
