I'll follow you closely, my dear! 👍
20 April 2014, 17:09

Hehe thanks chaps 🙂
Frank, I think am slowing down hehe, 2 days and i'm still working on the panels..
20 April 2014, 17:28

The better they will become... 😉
Take your time. No rush. I will watch slowly... 😉 😉 😉
20 April 2014, 17:29

Lol thanks frank. 🙂 Another pic of both panels and the tub .. no glue yet.. just to show how they look together
20 April 2014, 17:41

Side panels are done, some further detail to add like cockpit leavers etc..
21 April 2014, 15:21

Thanks Chaps..
Cookie, I will be building a british one soon.. well more than just one.. 😉
21 April 2014, 16:26

WOW, Augie, the cockpit looks awesome. Can you send it to me so I dont have to build mine, Yes mine is NAVY, you gotta love that brute when the nose oleo is extended. What colour scheme are you doing? Great job!
21 April 2014, 23:35

Ahh, the phabulous Phantom! You make a Luftwaffe version? That sounds good! Gerald Willing build this kit, too. And he told me that it comes from Hasegawa, will surely become an smooth build!
22 April 2014, 08:03

Cool, the good ol´Norm 72! But then you need other "Balkenkreuze" as given in the box!
But i´m convinced, your decalstash can tackle that!😄
22 April 2014, 17:56

Hey Holly,
Oooh I have secret weapon... I have decal set for this bird..
22 April 2014, 18:00

With sharkmouth? Stunning sh*t!!!😄
Oh a bird from Jever AB! Its just some miles away from me!🙂 But i didnt knew that Fighter Wing "Mölders" was there... Normally its the airbase of Fighterwing 71 "Richthofen", together with Wittmundhaven...
22 April 2014, 18:05

Hehe glad you like, should be a good one..
as for load out as I'm heading for 80's era It'll just be AIM-9 and fuel tanks, which was about normal for them.
22 April 2014, 18:10

Ah a pure fighter configuration! Great!
Just Sidewinders and tanks, no Sparrows?
22 April 2014, 18:16

Ah, you are right, just from 1986 they where able to carry AIM-120... My fault! 😉
22 April 2014, 18:31

🙂
@ Brandon :- The F4F was never equipped for sparrow, wasn't until the 90's when it got AMRAAM did it have a mid range missile.
22 April 2014, 18:35

Thanks Michael, Have added throttles and on the front panel. gear lever
23 April 2014, 22:50

Great work as always Augie. Where do you find all these Revell kits, haven't seen any this side of the pond.
24 April 2014, 00:13

Hey clifford...
I just get lucky hehe most come from europe for me..
They are reboxes of hasegawa F-4's just cheaper... lot cheaper..
24 April 2014, 22:04

We have to Start Export for Revell kits From austria to USA...😉 is revell generally available in US stores?
25 April 2014, 05:19

My local hobby shop has some from Europe. They're expensive though,he orders them directly from the distributor. It's like 25 dollars for a 1/144 kit,not worth it.
25 April 2014, 21:12

Thanks Christian 🙂 slow progress but yeah i like hows it is looking
27 April 2014, 19:52

Hehe Thanks Chaps 🙂 a new picture to follow, I've just scabbed the nose on.. not a great fit but with care it matches ok
27 April 2014, 21:42

Hi Augie. Just joining in and I like the look of the cockpit you built. Looking forward to see how it goes together. I picked up the 1/48 Monogram kit one day, which is not as nice as this one, but can use your photos for ideas and inspiration.
28 April 2014, 02:38

Looks great so far. I'll follow your build mate. It is my duty as a Rhino fan 😉
28 April 2014, 07:04

🙂 thank you all
Hope you enjoy david,
Alan I hope the monogram goes together as well 🙂
Micheal, I noticed on dry fits.. I just added a 1mm strip on that underside seam
28 April 2014, 10:22

Jee Augie, this cockpit is pretty impressive, the best you have done in my opinion, love it.
28 April 2014, 11:43

On closer inspection there's room for improvement. I'm missing the digits on your dials ....;) Nice work!
28 April 2014, 11:55

Hey Augie nice work on the cockpit! I finally got something done too a little Spad XIII-C it's hand painted, have a look! It's the same sort of kit I made 37 years ago (the first model I ever made was just like this) without the paint! 😉
28 April 2014, 16:59

Pictures of its nose job.. took a while to get it on but there we go.. its on
28 April 2014, 18:46

thanks frank.. I dunno why this one has inspired me to try new things
28 April 2014, 22:49

I like what i see, Augie! You are up to a cool Rhino-model! The copper comes good in the pit...;)
29 April 2014, 06:22

Oh that wasnt meant sarcastic, Augie!LOL😄
Will you add some more wire´s between the two seats?
29 April 2014, 09:08

Hehe I know 🙂 and yes started on bits between seats will get a pic up once home from work
29 April 2014, 09:21

Wings and intakes are on.. masking time... even I'm not going to do this one freehand..
3 May 2014, 17:56

Ha you say that... I have a horrid feeling this paint aint going well... new humbrol paints seem to be thick as hell and cover badly..
3 May 2014, 23:29

I've seen nothing but complaints on Humbrols newest acrylics, especially their RLM colours.
3 May 2014, 23:51

Urb, looks like the new enamels are as bad
Micheal might be a delay the green isnt great
4 May 2014, 07:03

Except for the track colour I didn't use new Humbrol enamels yet. However, the track colour was great and could be painted without any problems.
4 May 2014, 07:16

Hi frank, I'm glad it worked ok for you, I've had issues with 2 pots a 33 and a 155..finetrs crossed the repairs work
4 May 2014, 07:38

What kind of issues? I used both colours (latest batches, I think) e.g. for the seats of my Marmon Herrington and it worked fine.
4 May 2014, 08:08

Hey frank,
both have been thick and while brushing them out.. the pigment shifts and you end up with light spots.. its hard to explain
4 May 2014, 08:10

Agreed with the new Humbrol. I'm using the new RLM enamels with the Hairy Stick and they make the Revell enamels looks positively fine. The new Humbrol certainly covers badly and, as a consequence, requires several more coats than is usual.
The Phantom's looking good, however.
4 May 2014, 08:15

Thanks Bruce 🙂
i do like the sheme, now guys whats best way to remove ridges from the masking tape?
4 May 2014, 08:25

Ok, so .. ridges removed with razor blade..
And a after a coat of my secret weapon. we have as you see now.
4 May 2014, 09:05

thanks Micheal 🙂 the grey is a little patchy it seems sooo.. might need another coat on it
4 May 2014, 10:08

So.. letting it dry and set a bit before continuing.. so started on what's going to be under it
4 May 2014, 20:50

Hi Brandon, they arrived.. they are superb.. So good I'm putting in a order soon for 6 more pairs..
4 May 2014, 21:16

Mmm... that secret weapon you speak of Augie, Is it from the FUTURE??? But now you can only get it in the PAST!!! 😉
5 May 2014, 02:41

Thanks gents 🙂 its comming on nicely.. I quick piccie of my sneak tool to fit the stabs on at right angle
5 May 2014, 19:47

Well new progress pic.... you'll have to excuse the patch on the tail. it still needs coating
5 May 2014, 21:00

You are welcome, I love F-4s you know that,Next only to the Tomcat. I actually found a Hobby Shop in This town that carries that kit you are building so I will get me one. Progress on the EF-111 is slow, Haven't had much building time the last 2 wks. LOL.
5 May 2014, 21:51

Hehe the hasegawa F-4's are still very worth while in my opinion.. I mean i have enough of them now lol
5 May 2014, 22:05

That's looking great!
I'm surprised the 1:48 kit is rebox of Hasegawa? I'm just finishing the RoG F-4F in 1:72 and it's not a bad kit at all (though I do prefer the Hasegawa for reasons I'm not sure about).
6 May 2014, 14:47

Hehe thanks guys and girls
Xenia, Revell have reboxed a few of the Hase F-4's. the FG.2 was a rebox also
6 May 2014, 18:29

I would have said that some of the 72 Revellkits will be reboxes from Hase!
6 May 2014, 22:02

Correct!! Yes Holger and Augie there is quite a few 1/72 Hasegawa kits that have been reboxed under Revell boxing some of them are the S-3 Viking, Mosquito, Harrier Gr.7, Neptune and P-3 Orion and i'm sure there are others. Just as Hasegawa reboxed Revell/Monogram kits for the japanese market! How bout a Hasegawa 1/72 B-1B yes they did this along with many 1/48 scale items as well. But they are not often seen outside of japan! 🙂
7 May 2014, 00:09

Glenn I was referring to the F-4 kits in specific, I know everyone reboxes everyone else's kits. Was just surprised, because the Revell F-4F is a noticeably different kit than the Hasegawa kits, in 1/72.
7 May 2014, 02:11

Hey frank, I reckon with the number of decals to g on this one... it'll be next week for weathering lol
7 May 2014, 22:48

Lookin' good. hey Augie your lucky it's not a F-4EJ there covered with millions of little warning stencils! Enough to drive you nucking futs!!! 🙂
8 May 2014, 02:45

Thanks Es-haq.. more work to follow.. I just need to play hunt the part first
8 May 2014, 18:10

Sometimes. My hasegawa Huey has extremely thick decals. I'll need an aftermarket set to make it look right.
9 May 2014, 02:11

Hey Michael, I've found if decals silver i hit them with a VERY SMALL amount of good old nail polish remover (acetone) brushed on very lightly around the edges of the decal (don't play around or keep going over the one spot) BUT BE VERY CAREFUL!!! This works well with Humbrol Enamel and i have done it also with Gunze Acryilic paint too just be careful and try only a small amount with a small pointed brush IT WILL MELT THE DECAL AND THE PAINT!!! it soaks in under the edge of the decal, check on a spare decal first!!! i used this method on the tail of the little SPAD i made the other day and it pulls down the clear carrier film around the edge and settles it down very well.
9 May 2014, 02:56

Hehe thanks guys...these decals are not normal hasegawa...they are thin and really dont like setting solution
9 May 2014, 05:35

I must say, I never even had troubles with the, by everyone considered as " thick " Tamiya decals...only trouble I've had until now are decals coming in the box of the academy mig 21mf, they broke up, but with a little carefull work, it all came out good, even never had a slight sight of silvering, again except, with the small stencil decals in the HE177 Revell boxing...my believing is that in case one uses a decent base of clear, combined with a medium such as " sol " before adding decals, ya don't get silvering
9 May 2014, 10:00

Sorry to hear that...Like I said Michael... Very small amounts! Too much and it removes the paint (I said that!) I've seen the paint react a little but it tends to settle down when dry. The nail polish remover I use is a $2 Kmart brand (light green bottle) very small amounts just around the edge tends to settle down stubborn decals. That's why I said to try some on a spare decal. some inks in some decals will start to run! I have even pricked the decal sometimes with a pin to allow a small amount to enter between the decal and paint. Of course the smoother the surface the less chance of silvering.
9 May 2014, 14:36

German Phantoms are famous for their many stencils. Will you apply all of them?
10 May 2014, 18:11

So yeah.. guess which are kit seats and which are not...
the kit oes are from my F-4S
10 May 2014, 22:01

This is gorgeous. I don't know if this has been addressed already but what paints did you use?
11 May 2014, 16:46

Thanks Dirk 🙂 makes me blush considering the excellent work you do.
Thanks Xenia 🙂 , the grey is Humbrol 27, the RAL 6014 is a heavily thinned can of Revel 46 the rest are a mix of humbrol or revel.. or games workshop lol
11 May 2014, 17:38

😄 thanks Guys and girls... now for weathering.. piccie comming up shortly of first wing..
12 May 2014, 17:12

Great!! You should be very happy Augie, you have done a very good work, i see that you are improving your skills and this one is one of the best so far.
One to be proud of 😉 congratulations.
12 May 2014, 23:13

Thanks guys 🙂 am very proud of this one think it'll be done by weekend
12 May 2014, 23:59

Yep, the panel wash give her more depth and structure!
She is painted with brush inly, as always? If so I can't find any brush strokes. 😎
13 May 2014, 21:24

Hey Dirk 🙂 as always she's all brush painted
Thanks Clifford 🙂
She's just about finished.. just sticking the stabs on.. I knocked them off 🙁
13 May 2014, 21:47

It seems your brush painting dexterity reached airbrush conditions! Congrats, Augie!
14 May 2014, 06:12

No doubts anymore, this is my favourite work coming from you Augie!
you are in the right way... follow the light 😄 😄 😄
Congratulations 😉
14 May 2014, 10:34

😄 thanks Vitor its been fun
Hi Christian, Its Pro Modeller weathering wash. I just apply it to the panel lines and wipe off gently.. 🙂
14 May 2014, 17:57

Thanks Mike 🙂
Just uploaded new piccies. weathering is just about done, pylons and tanks left to do.. but nearly there.. 🙂
14 May 2014, 18:16

Phantom and a one with LW colors at that, you can't go wrong. lovely lovely build! 👍
15 May 2014, 17:12

Hehe thanks Guys,
Thanks Murand, your right does give me more motivation to finish 🙂
15 May 2014, 17:54

Awesome, just awesome, Augie!
What a greceful replication of this retired "Luftwaffendiesel"!👍
19 May 2014, 18:28

Oh yeah, i like it very much!
Especially the coloures! The paintjob itself, and the wolfpack add on´s and so on and on...😄
Great build, did i mentioned the pit???;)😄
Your best work, so far, in my opinion...👍
19 May 2014, 18:45

You are still building in the wrong scale young padawan, come to the 1:72 scale side. "Heavy Breathing"
20 May 2014, 12:51

😄 thanks Bill, I'm glad everyone likes it. I am really happy with how it came out.. couldnt be happier.
20 May 2014, 23:22

You deserve the comments that everyone has listed Augie. You have worked hard on the F4 and the results show in all the techniques you have used , especially the cockpit , it looks really good. Still cant believe you hand paint your models, I could wish.
21 May 2014, 03:20

Hello Augie, which colours did you use for the grey and olive?
18 January 2015, 17:49

Hey Christian,
The the grey was Humbrol 25.
The olive was a humbrol 155
18 January 2015, 18:10

Thank you Augie, Humbrol 155 should match Revell 146, and thats exactly what I have used.
Humbrol 25 should be dark blue...did you mix something up? 😉
18 January 2015, 18:20

Allright, thank you! For the grey I have used Revell 177, should match Humbrol 32, and RAL7012.
Anyway, I will paint one wing with clear coat and match it with him.
Would it be ok for you when I use one picture of yours to send him via mail and show him?
18 January 2015, 18:41

...just noticed that Revell 177 is mentioned also as "F-4 grey" in FS-Standard (paintconversionchart)...so my doubts are really all getting more and more away...
18 January 2015, 18:43

Christian, you are more than welcome to use mine as an example to him.... feel free to send him any pictures of it you wish to.
18 January 2015, 18:54

Augie what color is the belly? it almost looks aluminuim. I have a 1/32 scale F model that I am either do in the all grey camo, or convert it to an E model, I have not decided yet. The instructions call for mixing so much of this with that to get a certain color. Can any of you guys give me an Idea of what color greys the German F-4s were finished in in the 90s?
19 January 2015, 03:41

on this girl its humbrol 191
there is debate if its silver or grey but all pics I've seen appear silvery to me
19 January 2015, 09:42

I also painted the F-4F underside with Aluminium 99, as it is clearly visible on the photos and also in the instruction.
19 January 2015, 12:29

Dont know if that helps but it must be the same like the F-104 with the same camo. The underside is sprayed in some kinda dull/matt aluminium. Just like the wheel wells...
19 January 2015, 14:37

I have also the Eduard Starfighter in my stash, the underside of the German version should be "Neutral Grey", if I remember that correct. Also the F-104 upper coloures are not exact like of the F-4 onces. I guess there have been used a few varieties of different schemes.
