Thanks Augie. This will be my first effort using all Metalizer paints. So wish me luck. LOL.
23 October 2017, 23:26

Yeah Cliffy, you'll be right just remember to get a nice scratch free finish, because the metal paints just love showing up all the little imperfections. Not that I worry about that problem to much when I've had enough of sanding the plane, the paint goes on.😢

What type of primer do you use? I am using Model Master metalizer paints, but was thinking of using Alcad's black base, or an Acrylic black base.
23 October 2017, 23:51

Cliff, my experience with Alclad gloss black primer is ... well ... 🙁 It peels off easily (just rub your thumb over the black paint and it releases) so it basically is a primer that needs a primer, then it works ok. Personally I use Alclad metallics exclusively for smaller parts which I prime with Gunze (gloss) black. If I ever need to spray large surfaces of metalizer I will look for other brands than Alclad, as Alclad is way to fragile for me. But whatever you choose, I wish you luck and good results! 🙂 👍

Thank you both. I ordered the Vallejo gloss black primer, and decided to give the Vallejo Metal colors a try. So will use Aluminium Dark Aluminium and Dark Aluminium and Burnt metal.

I'll be watching this one too Clifford. I have this same kit also.
2 November 2017, 17:20

Yes this one I will. I have to let the primer cure real good and wet sand the wings, my first try with Acrylic primer did not go so well. Fuselage and tail surfaces are beautiful, but wings are a little rough.
3 November 2017, 01:19

Good luck with the Vallejo metal paints, I've never used them so I'm curious to see what they look like.
4 November 2017, 01:59

Clifford, my experience with that Vallejo metal colours is quite good - give the primer time to dry and may use only thin layers of the metal paint and you will get a nice result 🙂
4 November 2017, 08:55

Thank you Michael and Stephan. I watched a product review of these paints on Flory Models website, and they appear to come out quite nicely. She is all primed now, so I will let the primer cure for 48 hrs, then shoot the Aluminium and Dark Aluminium.

Eager to see pictures of the build process Clifford, I have this kit too (Revell Germany box) and planning to start it soon. Heard it's quite a nice kit. What is your experience with the build?
5 November 2017, 07:47

Looking forward to your progress on the NMF, what is a bucket of instant sunshine?????
5 November 2017, 09:13

Erik, I will get some pictures up tomorrow, I just finished painting the airframe with Vallejo's Metal Acrylic paint. What a marvelous paint, I love it. @ Wim, a bucket of instant sunshine is a MK-7 Nucelar weapon. The F-84 was designed to carry one. Erik, the Revell kit is an excellent build, fit is excellent with very little putty required. Surface detail is excellent. The only kit that I know of that might be better is the Tamiya one, but I do not think it is available any more. It had a nice gun bay. But it cost twice as much. I am also working on a Monogram F-84F which I totally re-scribed as it has raised panel lines.
6 November 2017, 00:49

🙂 Sorry Wim for the confusion that may have caused, "Bucket of instant sunshine" is nickname for nuclear weapons which I was taught many years ago from some ex aircrew and it stuck with me.
It sounds like its going well clifford, look forward to seeing it 🙂
6 November 2017, 01:16

aha! thanks for clearing that up....looking forward to the pictures
6 November 2017, 07:22

Nice progress Clifford, looks like a nice kit indeed. Will watch yours closely!
6 November 2017, 21:43

Thank you Augie,Erik and Dave. I love the Vallejo metal paints. They go on so easy. I guess I will have to tackle one of my NMF F-100D's next. Maybe the Thunder Birds one.
7 November 2017, 03:17

the NMF looks great......have to give those vallejo paint a try too, have used Alclad before but don't like the thinner they are based on.....
7 November 2017, 09:25

Thank you Konrad and Wim. Wim I would defineitly recommend the Vajello Metal colors. I used their Gloss Black Acrylic primer. Just let it cure for 24 hrs before shooting the paint. The metal colors I was able to mask after an hour and had no peeling of paint at all. I have part of the decals on now.
8 November 2017, 00:35

coming along nicely Clifford 🙂 nice that you like the Vallejo stuff 👍
16 November 2017, 20:57

Thank you, Augie,Dave Timothy Stephan and Erik. Your kind words are much appericated. I applied the pin wash today, so will clean that up and apply final clear coats and finish assembely. I need to get it off the bench, as I have to build an F-18, A-10 and a U-2 for each of my 3 son's for Christmas.
17 November 2017, 03:07

Nice one Cliff, very attractive, good job! But euhmm, do you mean Christmas 2017 or 2018? I mean, 3 more jets in less more than 1 month? Do you ever sleep? 😳 🤔 👍
17 November 2017, 07:47

Thank you all very much.@Wilfied, yes this Christmas. They all asked me to build them something and the 3 aircraft mentioned are what they asked for. 2 are already underway, the third has not arrived yet. I will be burning some midnight oil. LOL. But it will be worth it.
17 November 2017, 22:01

Hi Clifford! Very nice result! I like it very much 👍. By the way are you showing your 3 christmas projects too?
19 November 2017, 07:21

Yes I will be, when I get a chance to take some pictures. Spent most of today scratch building things for the U-2.
20 November 2017, 21:45

Clifford, nice job man! Not that I would expect anything else.
Just a note. The metalizers are great. I use them and Alclad all the time. I simply use Mr Surfacer 1500 in black, give it a light sanding then hit it with a gloss coat. Or simple gloss black paint. The next NMF I do I am going to play with using black and grays and white for primers to vary the color instead of spraying several different Alcalds/metalizers.
21 November 2017, 23:24

Sounds like a plan, I may give that a try on my F-100D. I used Vallejo's gloss black primer on this one, worked pretty good. Thanks for your kind words.
23 November 2017, 00:10

Thank you very much James and Murad. It was a most enjoyable build.
