20 November 2017, 14:10

20 November 2017, 14:35

Very slowly coming along.. Trying to fit in the Aires pit as good possible. Not a very easy task to say the least.
1 December 2017, 21:10

Nice one Erik. I have been planning almost the exact same build (I have all the same kits and decal in my stash). Which decal option will you go for?
1 December 2017, 22:02

I guess it will be a machine from the netherlands... just checked the versions in the kit and i must say i really like the german one.
2 December 2017, 08:18

Will do P-171 Mats. Nice to see you Will build a Dutch machine too! Unfortunately I have some troubles with the Aires cockpit, removed a bit to much plastic from the kit parts and the instrument panel seems to wide to fit properly. Have you seen my Dutch P-40? Maybe it's something for you too😄
2 December 2017, 08:19

P-171 looks like a good choice. I'm thinking of doing one of the bare metal schemes. TC-10 is a hot candidate
I have seen your P-40 and it looks great. Your build inspired me to do a Dutch P-40 myself but I think I'll go for a post war P-40N in 1/32. Dutch decals has a sheet I think I'll use:

2 December 2017, 13:27

Indeed it will be a Dutch machine David.. I'm kinda in of Dutch model mood lately🙂
@Patrick, "Ut Aquila Preadans"! Hope we will see F-35's in 311 colours in the future.. But with 37 machines it's more likely more Dutch squadrons will be deactivated..
@Mats, a great decal set Mats, I have one too. Want to make a post-WW2 machine too soon.
3 December 2017, 19:57

Small update. Painted the pit(finally!) and closed up the fuselage. Fuselage fit is decent.
15 December 2017, 08:51

beautiful work on that cockpit. it is a pity that Aires always needs lots of sanding 🙁 but detail is fantastic
15 December 2017, 21:07

Thanks mates! I need the RF version too Bart!
@Spanjaard, yes Antonio it requires some work. It is in fact the first time I use a Aires cockpit and I must admit it is more challenging than I had initially anticipated. Made a couple of beginner mistakes. But at least I "popped my cherry" Aires cockpit wise 😄
15 December 2017, 21:26

Thanks Guys! I repositioned the HUD part last night, it sits a bit deeper now. Will post some pictures today.
20 December 2017, 07:11

Yes it builds up quite nice, aires cockpit was a bit of work and the Quickboost nose piece needed some adjustment too.
22 December 2017, 23:57

Thanks Roland! The streak is all primed up and ready for the first layer of camouflage, PRU blue in this case for the underside. Gave the undercarriage a coat of AK Extreme metal, very nice stuff to work with.
3 January 2018, 21:06

That AK extreme metal looks great! I'll have to buy some. You can never have enough nice metal colors to choose from 🙂.
7 January 2018, 16:16

Me too Spanjaard 🙂.
@Björn, I have 3 shades of aluminum from AK, planning to do a Thunderjet in NMF after the Streak so I think I'll use the AK paints. Sprays like a charm and not sensitive to tape👍
7 January 2018, 20:38

AK is acrylic right? it does not stink like Alclad? i have the complete range from Alclad... but that does not mean i can not replace then with AK each time one finishes......
7 January 2018, 21:09

No, enamel 👍. Bu it doesn't stink like Alclad, it smells like... the early days 🙂
7 January 2018, 21:13

yup I agree with Erik, really the stuff is great and on a black gloss undergrond wow. I also tried the real metal stuff from AK and I have to admit looks great, but still have mixed feelings about it
8 January 2018, 08:28

I watched a demo by AK (on youtube) and they spray the extreme metal straight onto the plastic...that is an advantage over Alclad where a black basecoat is always required....the finish look great!
8 January 2018, 11:52

In this case I used a black primer Wim. Not absolutely necessary but it wouldn't hurt anything 🙂
8 January 2018, 15:08

Basic paintjob done now.. Painted with Xtracolor X1 Dark Green BS641, Xtracolor X8 PRU Blue BS636 and Humbrol 123 Extra Dark Sea Grey
11 January 2018, 21:31

Is there a specific reason you used the Xtraclor PRU Blue because to my eyes it looks quite grayish instead of blue.
11 January 2018, 21:40

Well the reason is the underside should be PRU Blue. But the artificial lighting and the blue backdrop are affecting the look I think. Will post a pic whit a white backdrop so you can see the difference.
11 January 2018, 21:44

Or do you mean on real KLu Streak pictures it looks more grayish?
11 January 2018, 21:48

looking great Erik!
With the paints from Alclad, my experience is that only the high gloss paints need a gloss black primer coat.
As long as the plastic and joints are free of scratches, you can get a perfect metallic finish without primer.
But I will definitely try the extreme metals from AK soon 🙂
11 January 2018, 22:00

Looking great Erik. I have one in the same color scheme in the decal stage. My belly is also PRU Blue.
11 January 2018, 23:32

Looking good so far. I was thinking it looked awfully grayish on your model as well. Certainly could be the lighting.
Kees is correct. Alclad does just fine straight on plastic. If you give the plastic a light polish, it can even come out fairly shiney. I just did an 84G with no primer. Gonna post it here soon.
12 January 2018, 01:39

Thanks mates. I added a picture with a white backdrop, makes the PRU blue more natural.
12 January 2018, 06:19

Erik, the extra picture makes it look more like the PRU Blue the belly should be. I had quite some looks at the one at the Gilze-Rijen gate and that one was surely more blueish than the previous pictures (maybe even too blue after the first restauration...)
12 January 2018, 06:30

Will only use the white backdrop from now on🙂. Funny how a background affects the overall presentation!
@Patrick, restored aircraft are indeed not always a good reference for us modellers. They seldom use the correct paints and even camouflage patterns are not always ok. As is with modelling😉
12 January 2018, 07:47

Erik, It is not the backdrop but your camera that really is messing up this kind of things. A digital camera always tends to calculate the lighting towards an average and middle gray........ hence that's why you have to over-expose to get really white snow !
12 January 2018, 08:01

Thanks mates. Decals are all done now. Now it's time for another layer of Future and after that I will apply a filter to weaken the brightness of the decals.
20 January 2018, 10:20

I'm in awe Erik. I think my next project is going to be my Iterali 1/32 F-104G. Should I do it in Dutch or German markings?
23 January 2018, 00:33

I agree with Patrick. A Dutch one would be the best choice🙂 And thanks for your nice words Clifford!
23 January 2018, 06:24

Test fitted the 450 gallon drop tanks, gives the Streak it distinctive look imo!
24 January 2018, 07:41

Patrick, sprayed a filter with the camouflage colors over the decals to make them less bright. After a light pinwash a semi-matt clear coat will be added too so the camouflage colors will "blend" together.
24 January 2018, 12:57

Looks good! Seems daunting and frightening to put paint on a freshly decalled plane.
24 January 2018, 15:17

Well, just thin your paint very much and fingers crossed 😄
24 January 2018, 18:30

😄 Good one! Now I need to practice airbrushing with crossed fingers.
24 January 2018, 19:10

Hope to finish mine soon too Clifford! Streak received a panel line wash and a flat clear cote.
26 January 2018, 22:07

Wow, this one is beautiful too! This and Clifford's build are both inspiring!
27 January 2018, 02:31

Looking awesome so far Erik! 👍 👍 👍 at image 26 i guess there is a flat coat, if so what did you use please?
28 January 2018, 20:52

Thanks Alexander and Murad!
@Murad, I used Alclad ALC-314 Klear Kote Flat. 2nd time for me I used this and I must say is has a nice matt finish, not really really matt but just right(for me at least).
29 January 2018, 07:34

imo it's looking perfect in the shots.
flat coats are a bane of me so far, only one that i am satisfied is (or was) testors visions and they are nowhere to be found anymore so i am constantly on the lookout for a flat enough yet non-coarse (ala sandpaper to the touch) finish varnish, this looks to be exactly that.
29 January 2018, 15:47

I understand you completely Murad! I used to use Xtracolor flat coat but that's very flat. Indeed just like sandpaper. I can really recommend the Alcad flat coat to you.
29 January 2018, 18:16

have you tried Future with Tamiya Flat Base? I have heard that you can use that to chose how flat you want it to look like. Although I must say so far, i have only used Future straight from the bottle....
29 January 2018, 18:27

No never tried that Spanjaard!
Removed the navigation "bumps" on the wingtips after the paint job was done, they annoyed me to much! Repaired the paint and added some spare clear parts. Much nicer imo.
30 January 2018, 09:28

I can only agree with all the previous mates. Very well done Erik 👍
2 February 2018, 22:41

Great work as usual Erik! Another Dutch bird in the collection 👍
3 February 2018, 08:58

Thanks for the overwhelming amount of nice comments mates! 🙂
3 February 2018, 14:19

Prachtig geworden....je fotografie is ook heel goed...vast niet met je mobieltje gedaan?
5 February 2018, 08:58

Thanks mates.
@Wim, took the pictures outside with my Canon EOS600D with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. Set the camera on 2sec timer with a small aperture of f22 to get a nice depth of field. I think they can be much better but I'm far from a experienced photographer.
