From top it looks much more appealing than on the box art.
The aircraft has an interesting shape and I think it would make a great base for some Ghibli'esque modifications.

Which "sludge wash" technique did you try? Is your color coat acrylic, enamel, laquer?

Yes, there is some scratching of missile mounts and fuselage bracing.
The sludge wash is described in a free article on the Fine Scale Modeling website...you register and then download Essential Finishing Techniques
