Typical start, making Airfix kits from Woolies with my Dad on the dining room table. Progressed to 1:12 Tamiya racing cars and LS pistol kits as a teenager. Then a big gap for college, work and a move to Switzerland. I did make a couple of kits 20 years ago before the kids came along.. Then during lockdown I bought an airbrush and found I could get a half-decent finish for the first time. Now I'm enjoying experimenting, mainly on 1:72 planes and the odd car for variety.
I'm not a big detail freak. I'd rather see a plane wheels up and with a pilot in the cockpit than with every hatch opened on the ground.
I have been able to visit a few aircraft museums in the UK and US and this prompted the ebay purchase of some diecast Corgi 1:72 planes. The TSR2, Blackbuck Vulcan, Douglas Bader's Spitfire, a Dambuster Lancaster (signed by some of the crew) and the black Eurofighter Typhoon prototype I saw flying during a visit to BAe Warton.
I also bought the deAgostini pre-painted version of IMAI's 1:144 Thunderbird 2 with two pods and all the vehicles.
This was all pre-airbrush! Now that I can do it justice, I just ordered a 1:144 Thunderbird 1 kit to go with it.
