I am getting back into the hobby of model building after a long absence.
I am most interested in World War II aircraft, and aircraft from the early jet age. I also have a fondness in my heart for Soviet and Russian aircraft from the Cold-War Era. I prefer 1:32 and 1:48 scales, but depending on the aircraft, I may go as small as 1:72 scale. If I want to tackle anything smaller (i.e, 1:144 scale) I will seriously have to level up my painting and detailing skills.
I would love to meet other modelers as it would be fun to hang out and talk shop. Talking about history would be awesome as we learn a lot of interesting things in the course of this wonderful hobby.
Favorite WW2 aircraft: Martin B-26 Marauder.
One would think I have an obsession with this aircraft. I have six kits in my stash. But what is there not to like about the Marauder? It was durable (i.e, Flak Bait), aerodynamic (i.e, perfect), sporty and, of course, sexy! A pilot's nightmare sure, but ironically the aircraft has one of the lowest loss-rates of any other WW2 aircraft! Think of its performance as a precursor or premonition of jet-age aircraft....
The kit I would most like to see: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird
Sure, there are kits of the Blackbird out there, but none of them pay proper homage or respect to this amazing aircraft. It is time we get a detailed higher end model kit of the Blackbird. Ideally, the price point would be around $1000 and the scale would be at least 1:32. It would pretty much be a license to print money for a model company. Tamiya? Revell? Are there any model companies out there that would love a guaranteed hit? If so, this is the idea! You're welcome!
