After some years without model building I am getting started with this interesting hobby again. (2013)
When I was young (about 9 years old) my brother got a kit to his birthday. He just built it out of the box without painting. While building it he got bored. (I got two of his kits, still unbuilt...). However I was fascinated by the moderate result. And because I was very interested in anything that could fly (by the way, I wanted to become a test pilot...) it was just a matter of time that I would collect model aircrafts.
My first completed model was an aircraft carrier. I was allowed to to chose one kit in a shop. The only reason why I have taken the carrier was that it contained many little aircrafts and some helicopters. I thougt this is better than a single aircraft...
Than in the mid 90s there was scrapbook about aircrafts. Every week I got some sheets for this scrapbook and a kit in scale 1/72. Encouraged by my father and supplied with some colors I have build about 10 kits until other things got more important.
After 15 years, in 2010, I started building some kits again. I also bought an airbrush. In this time I have built about 10 more kits. The first ideas of weathering and adding more details come to my mind to rebuild an aircraft that has really existed or does still exist in a realistic way.
Another 3 years have passed without model building. Now we have the year 2013. I have abour 100 kits in my stash, most of them from the early 90s. I think the time has come to improve the little skill I have to become a more serious model builder.
