1/35 Tamiya M8 Greyhound - Crossing Elbe River

Scale:

Status:
In progress
Started:

Closely to my home town, Magdeburg, the Allied forces made two attempts to cross the Elbe in April 1945. After the Wehrmacht had blown up the Elbe bridges, the Allies tried to build pontoon bridges. Once in Westerhüsen (a district of Magdeburg), this attempt failed shortly before the pontoon bridge was completed, as it was destroyed by artillery and air raids.
The second attempt succeeded at Barby, around 20 km south-east of Magdeburg, thus clearing the way to Berlin.
The pontoon bridge went down in history as the “Truman Bridge”.
