Dassault MD.450 Ouragan 2 ème Escadre de Chasse (EC 2, or 2nd fighter wing) at Dijon #202.
Flown by Lieutenant Saget (later Dassault chief test pilot) to win the Parice-Nice Air Race in 1954 at an average speed of 906km/h.
In August 1954, while staying at the squadron despite the summer holidays, he was chosen to represent his unit in the Creil-Cannes air race, a friendly competition between Ouragan-equipped units.
“It was said that year, that Marcel Dassault had a test pilot contract for the pilot winning the race,” recounted Saget. “We were not sure if it was true, but the fact remains that I won the race and, 15 days later, Dassault’s director of flight tests called me to offer me a contract.” Aged just 26, Saget said yes to the legendary aircraft designer: “I always admired Marcel Dassault because he knew how to make planes very quickly and, above all, he had the genius to know what was possible or not, both financially and technically.”
