Air Group 20 was embarked on Enterprise 16 Aug to 23 Nov 1994. Four squadrons assigned were VF-20 equipped with brand new F6F-5 in overall Sea Blue; F6F-3N from VF(N )-78 providing defense against night intruders; VB-20 equipped with SB2C-3s in the Tri-color scheme like their stablemates of VT-20 flying TBF-1C. Air Group 20 adopted a White triangle with black plane numbers painted in the tails of each aircraft.
Task Group 38.4 attacked Yap on 22 November 1944 after striking Luzon, Philippines on November 19th. The carriers in the Task Group were Enterprise, Hornet, Monterey and San Jacinto. Thirty VF-20 Hellcats, plus two VB-20 Helldivers photo planes, took part in the attack against Yap. The purpose was to drop napalm on a bivouac area near the main runway.
