The model depicts an M9 ACE from the Mobility platoon of Bravo Company, 10th Engineers, supporting 1st Brigade Combat Team (Heavy), 3rd Infantry Division.
The M9 ACE was the U.S. Army's attempt to provide earth clearing (Mobility) and ability to create defilade fighting positions (Survivability) support to forward mobile armored formations. Lightly armored with high density aluminum, the M9 ACE could keep pace with the M1 Abrams and M2/M3 Bradley's to provide support where and when needed. A significant advantage over the D7, D8 and D9 dozers which required semi-trailers to move about the battlespace. Only the dozer blade cutting edge and pusher were made of steel.
