I have been building models since I was 17.
I like to build models in their "showroom" state but possibly pose figures, shells etc. to tell a story of what the kit does. I also like to leave on my 1/35 & 1/48 kits, some PE detail in its raw state. Adding bling, I guess. I also came across these great little things called Rhinestones! I add them for tactical/navigation lights for aircraft and for indicators/stop/clearance lights on my 1/35. I know it's not historically accurate and the rivet counters will try and crucify me but hey they are my models and I build for my enjoyment 🙂
I don't weather my static models and only lightly do if I build a diorama. My period for being in the military (& I am sure it is the same now) we had no rust on vehicles not even in the field. Always carried tins of paint for touching up in the field. Also, over time in the bush vehicles tended to clean dirt and mud off themselves when relocating from one SAM site to another. I am not knocking people who want to super weather but hey each to their own.
I'm ex Australian Army (SAM's) and served in what the world knew as Desert Storm when Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990-1991. Being ex Air Defence tends to lean me towards SAM's in 1/35 as my favourite models to build.
After I left the military, I became a professional firefighter with Fire & Rescue NSW and did over 20 years with them.
