Retired from the USAF in England after 25 years' service. Veteran of both Gulf War campaigns and other events, an avid (WWII) history buff and a some-time keen modeller of World War II warbirds, predominantly Luftwaffe fighters and medium bombers, but I have a soft-spot for the big allied bombers (Lancs, Forts, Libs, Superforts, Stirlings, etc.).
My moniker (nickname) is a portmanteau between Luftwaffe and fanatic, hence the nickname, "Luftfanatic".
I started out on the old 1/24th scale Revell and Ertl plastic kits of cars, Jeeps, etc. (I remember building a Datsun pickup called, "California Dreamin'") when I was about 8 or 9 - in the early 70's. I got into the hobby because I was fascinated with things in miniature, like my dad's Apollo XI rocket (the Revell kit) that sat on top of the drafting table for years (he did a really crummy job of assembling that kit!). After a few years I left cars and took an interest in aircraft: first aircraft kit I did was a Spitfire, then a Messerschmitt, an A-4, then an F-4. I picked up a Monogram Do-335 Arrow because I was utterly fascinated with the strange propeller set-up - ironically enough I never built that kit, but somehow that got me hooked on WWII Luftwaffe aircraft from that point on and I haven't looked back! Although, once in awhile, I'll pull out an AFV and build it. As long as it's 1/48 scale 🙂.
Never did "best" my dad by building an Apollo rocket like he did; I don't do any space-stuff (sorry 🙁). Funny how things turn out in life.
I don't do social media (twitter, facebook, myspace, instagram, whatsapp, etc.).
