This is my take on the Humber Armoured Car Mk III. This vehicle was Karrier’s response to a 1939 request sent to several manufacturers for a reconnaissance armored car design. It was built on the Karrier KT4 chassis (originally used for an artillery tractor) and combined with the armored body of the Guy Armoured Car - a quick solution to produce a suitable vehicle.
First deployed in North Africa in 1941, the Humber Armoured Car was primarily used by the 11th Hussars. Mark III marked a significant upgrade, particularly with the introduction of a three-man turret, which included a dedicated wireless operator. This freed the commander from handling communications.
This particular build is inspired by a photograph taken on February 2, 1943, in Tripoli, showing a ‘B’ Squadron, 11th Hussars vehicle. The photo's deion reads:
"The armored car and its crew, the first to enter Tripoli. Sgt. Lyon claims to be the first man to enter the city, but the driver, Tpr. Stonier, contests the point as his position in the vehicle is slightly in front of that of the sergeant."
I was inspired to build this model while reading Jake Wardrop’s diary (a great read - I highly recommend it). In particular, the chapter where Jake, a corporal in the 5th Royal Tank Regiment, describes the chase with the 11th Hussars to reach Tripoli.
It's Bronco's kit, a very detailed, full interior kit, but extremely fiddly. Some parts are SO small and some subassemblies are complicated, but the kit is amazing. Unfortunately, the interior is sealed forever, but you can have a look WIP thread here.
It's painted with a combination of MRP (factory SCC 2 color), Real Color Light Stone, and mostly Vallejo for detail painting. The Interior was painted with a silver color, although, there's a good chance it was white.
I used a Black Dog T35089 British Humber Mk III accessories set, although just some pieces.
Chipping was done with AK's chipping fluid (light one, Screches Effects). Dust is sprayed pigments, followed by rubbing dry pigments after sprayed pigments are dried.
Some detail shots. I tried to capture some of the interior... not with too much success.
